Publication number: 20120070246Abstract: A screw and nut assembly includes a screw, a nut and a spacer. The nut has a central through hole and an annular fastening portion extending from one end thereof. The annular fastening portion has a plurality of grooves thereon. The spacer has a central hole and an annular concave portion next to the central hole. The screw penetrates the spacer and the nut, and then the nut is tightly screwed to the screw. When the screw and the nut are locked, the nut is moved toward the spacer. The annular fastening portion of the nut is confined by the annular concave portion of the spacer and compressed inward. Through the grooves, the annular fastening portion is compressed inward, so that the inner edge of the annular fastening portion engages with the outer threaded body of the screw tightly to prevent disengagement.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2011Publication date: March 22, 2012Inventor: Chun Ta PENG

Patent number: 8021093Abstract: The specification discloses a locking threaded fastener including a body, a coil spring, and a compression ring. The body is hex-shaped and defines a partially threaded bore, an external circumferential groove, and a passage extending radially between the bore and the groove. The coil spring is located within the bore and includes a first end angularly fixed with respect to the body and a second end extending through the passage and into the groove. The compression ring is located within the groove and defines an opening receiving the second end of the coil spring. The compression ring is free to move within the groove and includes portions that extending radially outwardly beyond the flats of the hex shape. When a conventional wrench is engaged with the hex shape, the wrench compresses the compression ring to prevent relative angular movement between the ring and the body. The “locked” compression ring thereby prevents relative angular movement between the second end of the coil spring and the body.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2009Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Flow-Rite Controls, Ltd.Inventor: Daniel N. Patent number: 7837413Abstract: An adjustable spreader bar of a trench box has male and female telescoping pipes. The male telescoping pipe has a plurality of indexed openings, and the female telescoping pipe has an outer threaded portion with a groove to receive a locking pin. A sleeve is threadably attached to the outer threaded portion of the female telescoping pipe, and the sleeve has a sleeve opening and an inside channel for receiving the locking pin therethrough, so that fine adjustments, in the relationship between opposing panels of the trench box, can be made by rotating the sleeve about the threaded portion of the female pipe for extension or retraction of the male pipe, by forcing the locking pin along the groove.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2008Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Inventor: Robert Kundel, Sr.

Patent number: 7179035Abstract: A locking nut has an internal thread intended to be screwed up on a thread on a shaft and includes at least one locking element which, by way of at least one locking screw, is adapted to be pressed against the thread in the shaft, thereby locking the nut against unintentional unlocking. The locking element is provided with a releasing device incorporating at least one screw arranged to be in threaded engagement with the locking element for subjecting the locking element to a radial pulling force causing the locking element to be lifted from engagement with the shaft thread after loosening of the locking screws.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2004Date of Patent: February 20, 2007Assignee: Aktiebolaget SKFInventors: Uno Axelsson, Henrik Olsson

Patent number: 5931621Abstract: The present locking mechanism for rotatable fastener functions to reliably and inexpensively secure a rotatable fastener in place once it is seated. This is accomplished by the formation of an aperture into the body of the rotatable fastener in a lengthwise direction coaxial with the axis of the cylindrical shaped rotatable fastener. A second aperture is formed in the body of the rotatable fastener perpendicular to the first aperture and intersecting same. A locking pin is placed in the second aperture such that one end of the locking pin is flush with the surface of the body of the rotatable fastener, non-interfering with the operation of the threads formed on the exterior surface of the body of the rotatable fastener. A second end of the locking pin protrudes into the first aperture. A locking post is placed in the first aperture, located above the locking pin and accessible via the open end of the first aperture in the head of the rotatable fastener.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1998Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Inventors: Gary L. Patent number: 4653968Abstract: A hood bumper assembly which may be used, for example, to adjustably align the hood of an automobile with the adjacent fenders as the hood is brought down into locked engagement over the engine compartment. The assembly includes a workpiece, which may be the framework of the engine compartment, having an aperture and a helical internal marginal portion defined around the aperture, and a member having an end with a spherical surface portion arranged to engage the hood when closed and a shank portion including a helical thread adapted to be threadingly received by the aperture. The assembly further includes detent means carried by the shank and the workpiece for releasably locking the shank within the aperture against rotation at predetermined rotational intervals. The spherical surface portion of the member end is arranged to coact with a stamped recess in the underside of the hood to prevent lateral vibration of the hood and to positively locate the hood in proper position when it is closed.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1980Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Assignee: Illinois Tool Works, Inc.Inventors: George M. Patent number: 4645395Abstract: The invention concerns a nut provided with a locking element (4, 5, 6, 7), which by e.g. a screw (8, 9, 10, 11) can be urged radially against a screw thread. In order to provide a self-contained and easily releasable nut the locking element is arranged in a recess which, together with the element, is so arranged that at least a part (12, 13, 14, 15) of the element is deformed elastically when the element is moved against the screw thread. Thereby the element springs out of contact with the thread when the screw (8, 9, 10, 11) is released.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1984Date of Patent: February 24, 1987Assignee: SKF Nova ABInventor: Bengt Lundgren

Patent number: 4504249Abstract: An adjustable pulley construction including a first disc having a belt-engaging surface and a centrally located, internally threaded annular hub, the hub having an exterior flat face and an interior recess; and a second disc having a belt-engaging surface and a centrally located annular externally threaded axle, the annular hub of the first disc being coaxially with and movable relative to the axle. The belt-engaging surfaces are positioned in facing relationship to receive a pulley belt therebetween. Securing elements for maintaining a desired space relation between the discs, the securing elements include: a threaded bore disposed in the hub transverse to the axle, a set screw received in the bore, a longitudinal keyway in the hub communicating with the bore, a keyway land provided on the axle in line with the set screw, and a generally H-shaped key. The key is positioned within the recess in the hub and engaged by the set screw to provide a frictional clamping action of the key onto the keyway land.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1982Date of Patent: March 12, 1985Inventors: Yvon Fortier, Jean-Pierre Fortier
