Frangible Connection Patents (Class 411/2)
  • Patent number: 5092797
Abstract: An electrical wire connector (10) has a C-shaped body section having arcuate ears (22) laterally therealong and converging from a wide end to a narrow end and forming wire grooves (24), a wedge having converging concave side surfaces (32) forming wire channels opposing wire grooves (24) when inserted into the wide end of the C-shaped member (12), and a shear head drive bolt (50) for urging the wedge (14) into the C-shaped member upon actuation to compress and thus interconnect respective wires (16,18) placed along the wire channels. The drive bolt (50) has an outer hexagonal head (54) joined to a smaller inner hexagonal head (56) at a frangible section to be sheared off upon achievement of a selected torque level which assures interconnection of the wires when attained.

  • Patent number: 4858299
Abstract: Axially-extending troughs in a bark of an internally-threaded collar receive setting balls of a driver that apply a torque to the collar through the balls bearing on the walls of the troughs. At a predetermined pre-load, the balls fail the bark and plow through it to develop circumferential furrows, and the torque application on the collar ends. A second torquing with balls at a different axial position fails the bark again at the same pre-load to compensate for any relaxation after the first torque application.

  • Patent number: 4838264
Abstract: A bone penetrating pin for medical use includes, in one embodiment, a shank provided at one end with a bone penetrating element of titanium or single crystal alumina ceramic material, and a driving head at the other end. A removable cap is applied to the driving end, the cap including upper and lower cylindrical portions of substantially identical diameters interconnected by an intermediate portion of substantially smaller diameter. The upper portion is formed with oppositely extending arms for application of torque through the cap to the shank and bone penetrating element. The intermediate portion of the cap is designed to fail in shear upon the application of torque in excess of a predetermined maximum; that is, it provides a torque limiting function.

  • Patent number: 4794672
Abstract: Quickly attachable button arrangement (1) comprising a button head (2) having integrally formed therewith a combined button-head holding and attachment device (5) for holding the button head on and attaching the button head to a piece of material (3). The button-head holding part (5a) comprises one or more surfaces (4a, 4b, 4c) or the like which are located at a distance from the button head and face theretowards, and the button-head attachment part (5b) comprises a material-piercing needle-like part. The holding part (5a) is intended to abut the side (3a) of the material (3) located on the opposite side of the button head (2), therewith to hold the button head to the other side (3b) of the material. The holding part (5a) has a helical and/or spiral form and the holding part (5a) is intended to follow the attachment part (5b) through the material as the button arrangement is twisted.

  • Patent number: 4679966
Abstract: An elongated rod with an expansion shell assembly positioned on the upper end thereof is advanced into a bore hole drilled in rock formation behind a resin cartridge system. The lower end of the rod is connected by a coupling to the upper end of a bolt having a bearing plate positioned on a lower end of the bolt emerging from the bore hole. Unitary rotation of the rod and bolt in a preselected direction while maintaining the shell assembly in an unexpanded condition effects mixing of the resin components in the bore hole. Continued rotation of the rod and bolt after the resin components are mixed effects expansion of the shell into engagement with the wall of the bore hole to anchor the rod in the bore hole.

Abstract: An elongated rod with an expansion shell assembly positioned on the upper end portion thereof is advanced behind a resin cartridge system into a bore hole drilled in a rock formation. A bearing plate and a stop nut are positioned on the end of the rod emerging from the bore hole. Unitary rotation of the nut and rod in a preselected direction while maintaining the shell assembly in an unexpanded condition effects mixing of the resin components. Continued rotation of the nut and rod after the resin components are mixed effects expansion of the shell into engagement with the wall of the bore hole to anchor the rod in the bore hole. The rotation applied to the nut after setting of the shell permits the nut to advance on the lower end of the rod to urge the bearing plate into compressive relation with the rock formation to put the rod under tension without interrupting rotation to allow the mixed resin to cure.

  • Patent number: 4595315
Abstract: An anchor bolt assembly for mounting within a bore formed in a rock structure, to strengthen the rock structure, comprises a shaft having a leading section and a bottom threaded section. A nut which may be attached to a face plate washer is threaded onto the end of the bottom section and bonded by an adhesive material thereto. A cartridge or capsule of anchoring cement is inserted into the bore and pierced by the leading section of the shaft as it is advanced into the bore. The shaft and nut are rotated as a unit to mix and distribute the anchoring cement within the bore and along the length of the leading section. Once the anchoring cement sets to secure the shaft in position within the bore, additional torque is applied to rotate the nut and break its adhesive bond with the bottom section. The nut is then advanced along the bottom section until the face plate washer is tightened against the rock structure.

  • Patent number: 4477209
Abstract: The anchor bolt assembly is of the type used in mine roofs where the anchor bolt is assembled and positioned in a drill hole in a rock formation and in which quick-setting adhesives secure the assembly to the rock formation. The assembly includes an elongated reinforcing rod, an elongated bolt, and a coupling internally threaded at each end and connected to the rod and bolt. A cylindrical plug of aluminum is positioned within the bore of the coupling and frictionally engaged by the threads so as to permit the entire assembly to turn in a first position and to disengage from its frictional engagement to permit turning of only the elongated bolt in a second position.

  • Patent number: 4290337
Abstract: A fastener set comprising a bolt body, a nut and a washer which are fitted onto the bolt body. Said bolt body has a notched portion which can be broken by a predetermined torsional force. Said nut is coated by a composition containing a ester obtained by only partial esterification of a polyol having not more than twelve carbon atoms and a fatty acid or an oxy-acid.
