  • Patent number: 8381363
Abstract: A securing mechanism for a shackle having a pair of opposed legs with an opening at one end of each of the pair of opposed legs to form a pair of opposed openings. The securing mechanism includes a shackle bolt having a head at one end and a circumferential groove near an opposed end wherein the shackle bolt is received through the pair of opposed openings in the shackle. A two piece hinged clamp assembly is received in the circumferential groove in order to retain the shackle bolt in the shackle. A retainer pin is received in an opening in the two piece clamp assembly to hold the two piece clamp assembly in a closed position. A retainer clip surrounds the retainer pin. A lock pin through the two piece clamp assembly retains the retainer pin in the two piece clamp.

  • Publication number: 20120063863
Abstract: A self-locking threaded fastener that can be driven using conventional driving tools. The threaded fastener includes a fastener body and a locking band. The body includes a) a threaded portion and an unthreaded portion and b) an aperture extending radially from the unthreaded portion. The locking band includes a curved portion within the unthreaded portion of the fastener body and a tang extending into the aperture to limit angular movement of the tang with respect to the body. The curved portion terminates at an end having a range of radial movement with respect to the fastener body. When the threaded fastener is turned in a loosening direction, the locking band inhibit loosening of the threaded fastener.

  • Patent number: 5779414
Abstract: A screw threaded fastener comprising a first member with an external screw thread and a second member with a corresponding internal screw thread. One of said first and second members has a radial bore, and the other of said first and second members has a corresponding recess, so that when the screw threads of the first and second members engage, the radial bore may be aligned angularly with the recess. A resilient pin assembly is provided having pins located in said radial bore. The pins are thus resiliently urged in said radial bore toward said recess, so that when the radial bore is aligned angularly with the recess, the pins engage the recess, preventing further relative rotation between the first and second members.

  • Patent number: 5460418
Abstract: A safety retainer for preventing disengagement of a shackle bolt from a U-shaped shackle. The retainer includes a collar member and a pin member. The tubular collar member surrounds the head of the shackle bolt and is provided with a pair of holes through its walls, coaxially alignable with an aperture in the shackle bolt head, and a notch cut out of the wall of one end thereof for engagement with one arm of the shackle. The pin member is insertable through the pair of collar member holes and the shackle bolt aperture to prevent rotation and disengagement of the shackle bolt from the shackle.

  • Patent number: 5460467
Abstract: A locking nut for use with a shaft having a serrated thread employs a segmented, radially expandable locking element having serrations on its internal diameter. The locking element is disposed in a counterbore of the nut and is axially movable between a first locked position and a second unlocked position. The locking element is resiliently biased toward the axis of rotation of the nut and is also resiliently radially biased axially to the locked position. The nut is unlocked by overcoming the axial resilient bias and driving the locking element segments up a radially diverging ramp provided within the nut against the resilient radial bias.

  • Patent number: 4759177
Abstract: A shackle safety keeper for keeping the threaded eye bolt of closing a U-shaped shackle from rotation of the eye bolt and ultimate disengagement of the shackle. The shackle safety keeper is a single wire continuously bent to form the disclosed keeper. This wire is bent intermediate its two ends at a bowed spring portion. This bowed spring portion has two depending shackle engagement sections extending downwardly and at right angles from the bowed spring portion. These sections are for clamping to the side edges of the U-shaped shackle adjacent the protruding eye on the shackle bolt. The lower end of each shackle engagement section has protruding angularly outward therefrom two eye reaching legs. These eye reaching legs extend from the bottom of each shackle engaging section out into registry with the eye on the protruding bolt when it has closed the shackle. The two eye reaching legs end the all wire constructed keeper with two opposed and overlapping eye piercing lugs.

  • Patent number: 4645395
Abstract: The invention concerns a nut provided with a locking element (4, 5, 6, 7), which by e.g. a screw (8, 9, 10, 11) can be urged radially against a screw thread. In order to provide a self-contained and easily releasable nut the locking element is arranged in a recess which, together with the element, is so arranged that at least a part (12, 13, 14, 15) of the element is deformed elastically when the element is moved against the screw thread. Thereby the element springs out of contact with the thread when the screw (8, 9, 10, 11) is released.

  • Patent number: 4278120
Abstract: A safety bolt having a headed end, a shank, and a second end with means near the second end to hold the bolt in a hole in a workpiece. An axial passage opening into the second end intersects a laterally-extending passage spaced therefrom, and a dog fits in the laterally-extending passage wherein it is laterally reciprocable so as to be extendible beyond the maximum diameter of the shank or to be entirely retracted within it. A cam member having a pair of oppositely facing cam surfaces is axially slidable in the axial passage. A bias spring is provided to bias the cam member to a position corresponding to maximum extension of the dog. A plug is detachably attachable to the safety bolt to hold the cam member in a position respective to retraction of the dog. A projection can be provided on a nut for use with this bolt to prevent reversal of the nut, and a plurality of bias springs each with a different rate can be used.
