Comprising A Spring Of The Coiled Type Patents (Class 411/318)
  • Patent number: 11766800
Abstract: An apparatus for creating holes in a workpiece includes a knockout punch tool having a movable piston. The apparatus also includes a draw stud assembly having a connector attachable to the movable piston, a draw stud, and a quick connect mechanism including mating first and second thread segments on the connector and the draw stud, respectively. The connector and the draw stud are movable between a first relative orientation where the mating first and second thread segments are misaligned to permit axial movement between the connector and the draw stud, and a second relative orientation where the mating first and second thread segments are aligned and engaged to inhibit axial movement between the connector and the draw stud.

  • Patent number: 8496422
Abstract: A threaded fastener-nut combination for attaching two work pieces together has means for preventing the intrusion of the fastener threads into the bores of each work piece, thus preventing damage to the work piece which may result from such intrusion. The stud member has a pawl member which extends radially outward to engage an aperture in the nut member, which locks the nut member to the stud member. The engagement of the nut member to the threaded portion of the stud member produces both audible and tactile feedback to indicate that the fastener is properly placed and engaged. Tactile feedback is returned through the emergence of the pawl through the aperture in the nut, and by the rotation of the entire fastener assembly upon the provision of further tightening effort. Auditory feedback is provided through a “click” or similar sound produced when the pawls engages the aperture of the nut.

  • Publication number: 20090208309
Abstract: Non-reversing fasteners include a bolt having a groove defined along the thread, and a nut having a biased tooth disposed in an internal pocket. When the nut is threaded onto the bolt, the biased tooth does not engage the groove. When the nut is reversed off the bolt, the biased tooth stays in an extended position and engages the groove, preventing it from reversing. A tool positions on the nut and moves the biased tooth from the extended position to a retracted position, allowing the nut reverse off the bolt. The tool can be another nut having a magnet for moving the tooth from the extended to the retracted position. A reverse arrangement can have a bolt with a biased tooth and a first having a groove. A tool in the form of a magnetized rod can fit into an axial bore in the bolt to move the tooth.

  • Patent number: 7029196
Abstract: A system for joining two components includes a rotatable locking member having a pair of diametrically opposed notches, a pair of diametrically opposed first sectors having a first radius, and a pair of diametrically opposed second sectors having a second radius larger than the first radius. A shaft is attached to and extends axially from the locking member. One of the components has a cavity and an opening for inserting the locking member into the cavity. The other component has a receptacle for holding an end of the shaft opposite the locking member so that the shaft holds the two components together.

  • Publication number: 20030044255
Abstract: A fastening device for a wheel is disclosed. A hub nut which has been fastened to a hub bolt cannot be loosened owing to a decoupling prevention unit of the hub nut and a rotation prevention protuberance of the hub bolt, as long as an assembling tool is not used. Consequently, the fastening device improves the steering stability of an automobile and prevents separation of the wheels from the axles while the vehicle is in motion.

  • Patent number: 6302633
Abstract: A fastener apparatus having a bolt member with a fast lead threaded portion, a barrel member with a fine lead threaded portion, a collar member interposed between the bolt and the barrel and including both fast lead and fine lead threads to mesh with the respective threads on the bolt and the barrel, and an actuator for coupling two of the three members together so that in one instance the fastener is drawn rapidly on fast lead threads through a significant distance and in the second instance the fastener is drawn together on fine lead threads providing additional mechanical advantage.

  • Patent number: 4725174
Abstract: A bolt is provided with a radial, spring-loaded pawl, and an associated nut is provided with cooperating detents on its inner diameter that cooperate with the pawl so that the nut does not back off the bolt. The nut is also castellated for insertion of a cotter pin through the bolt so that the nut is further restrained from backing off. In the event that the nut backs off, the pawl prevents the bolt from pulling out of a close tolerance hole, such as a rod end fitting.

  • Patent number: 4643460
Abstract: A concrete pumping pipe coupling operates at nominal pressures of 2,000 psi and momentary peaks in excess of 3,000 psi. A two-piece hinged coupling forms a cylindrical enclosure encircling adjacent pipe ends. A two-piece latch releasably interconnects the ends of the two coupling sections. The latch includes a lever pivotally mounted to a link which is pivotally connected to the one coupling section. The lever pivots on a cam member connected to the other coupling section. The link includes a bolt threaded into an elongated nut. The threaded connection is for varying the length of the link. The elongated nut has an annular inner groove with a stop wall at each end. A spring-loaded limit pin is slidably mounted in a blind hole in the bolt and projects into the recess. The stop walls in the nut limits the movement of the bolt from the nut and thereby the extension of the link.

  • Patent number: 4553890
Abstract: The captive screw has an enlarged head to prevent complete passage of the screw through a bore in a panel. The shank of the screw has a side opening incorporating a retractable latch radially extending from the shank. This latch has upper and lower sloping cam surfaces at its forward end. The lower surface is oriented such that urging of the screw inwardly through the bore in the panel retracts the latch. The latch is spring-biased radially outwardly so that after the latch clears the bore, the screw is held captive. The upper cam surface of the latch intercepts the lower cam surface in a line which is tilted at an angle corresponding to the helix angle of the threads in a nut receiving the screw in an adjacent panel. The screw can thus be threaded into this nut to close the panel and the latch will function as a thread lock.

  • Patent number: 4285377
Abstract: A safety bolt having a headed end, a shank, and a second end with means near the second end to hold the bolt in a hole in a workpiece. An axial passage opening into the second end intersects a laterally-extending passage spaced therefrom, and a dog fits in the laterally-extending passage wherein it is laterally reciprocable so as to be extendible beyond the maximum diameter of the shank or to be entirely retracted within it. A cam member having a pair of oppositely facing cam surfaces is axially slidable in the axial passage. The dog has a pair of followers one on each side bearing against oppositely directed cam surfaces whereby the lateral position of the cam is uniquely a function of the axial position of the cam member. Bias means is provided to bias the cam member to a position corresponding to maximum extension of the dog.
