Abstract: Systems, apparatus and methods for an accessory retaining device are described. According to various embodiments, a handle, shaft and flange are configured to provide a rotational interface. With the assistance of threading between the shaft and the handle or other components, rotation of the handle causes axial movement of the shaft and compression of a grommet located about the shaft or flange. Compression of the grommet results in radial expansion. In this way, the accessory retaining device is adapted to secure an accessory to a mounting aperture located on a vehicle or other device when the handle is in a closed position. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A fastener and a fastener system using the fastener are disclosed. The fastener has an elongated shank having a thread formed at one end and a annular recess formed adjacent the threaded portion to define a leading and trailing abutment surface. The thread guides the fastener into engagement with one or more components having thread engagement features and the annular recess permits the free spinning of the fastener without further tightening after the thread engagement features have advanced past the thread. The fastening system includes the fastener and a component to be fastened having a passageway for accepting the fastener formed by at least two flanges engageable in the thread and engageable in the annular recess of the fastener.
Abstract: A structure and method for a locknut with a substantially rigid locking member is provided. The locking nut has an elongated body relative to a comparable standard, non-locking nut. The elongated body allows the nut to provide a standard length of thread for engaging bolt members, while also defining a void for the receipt and retention of a removable and replaceable rigid locking member. In a preferred embodiment, the member-carrying void has a forged gear-shaped side-wall structure that substantially engages the locking member within the void while shipping or handling the lock nut, and also causes the member to rotate with the nut as the nut is rotated onto a bolt member, and off of the bolt when loosened. One of either of the bolt threads and locking insert deform responsive to the compressive forces, locking the nut onto the bolt.

Abstract: A screw terminal assembly for a wiring device includes a terminal base with a bore having an internal thread. A screw having a shank with an internal thread and a head at one end is threadedly engaged in the bore. A portion of the external thread is deformed adjacent the end remote from the head to limit removal of the screw from the bore.
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for retaining a threaded fastener in an aperture of a support. The apparatus includes a flange position to limit the insertion of the apparatus within the aperture of the support. The apparatus also includes a body extending axially from the flange and being sized for insertion within the aperture of the support. The body defines an opening extending through proximal and distal sections of the body. The opening in the body is sized to receive a threaded fastener in the proximal section of the body, and the opening in the body is sized for engagement of the threaded fastener in the distal section of the body. The proximal section of the body is configured for radial deformation upon engagement of the threaded fastener in the distal section of the body. Such deformation prevents removal of the body of the apparatus from the aperture of the support. A fastener system and a rack mount computer cabinet including the apparatus are also provided.
Abstract: A method of making a threaded insert assembly for sheet material wherein a threaded insert that is a single unitary element is installed in a closely fitting hole in the sheet material with its threads occupying the hole. The sheet material around the hole on the exit side of the material is then upset into the threads of the insert in order to hold it by its threads so that it is adjustable by rotation. An unthreaded tip effectively prevents removal of the insert by back-screwing.
Abstract: The governor includes a torque-control capsule actuated by a governor member that adjusts in accordance with rpm and disposed in a force-transmitting member subject to the force of a governor spring, by means of which torque-control capsule both the onset and control stroke (b) of torque control are adjustable or settable in an infinitely graduated manner without affecting one another. The torque-control capsule has a stop bolt inserted in a stepped longitudinal bore of a stop housing, a torque-control spring and an adjusting screw, which forms an abutment for the torque-control spring. The adjusting screw is adjustable in an infinitely graduated manner and is secured in a positionally fixed manner inside the stop housing in the vicinity of an internal thread.
Abstract: A tamper-proof fastener consists of a screw body having a flat-faced head portion and a threaded shank portion having at least one slit extending in a radial direction and located in an end of the shank opposite the head portion, the slit forming at least two legs in the end of the shank. The body defines a central bore extending from the flat face of the head portion to a point intersecting the slit at the end of the shank portion to form a squared-off shoulder in at least one of the legs and terminating in a tapered shoulder in at least one other leg. The tamper-proof screw also includes a headless pin which is sized to fit within the bore so that insertion of the pin into the bore causes an end of the pin to abut the squared-off shoulder and to engage the tapered shoulder to deflect the other leg outwardly. The pin is sized to be flush with the face of the head portion when it abuts the squared-off shoulder to eliminate a protrusion which could be grasped to remove the fastener.
