Abstract: A flanged hexagon head bolt can fasten the bolt by a stable fastening axial force, and can stop rotating the fastened bolt. When the bolt is fastened, a flat bearing face of a circular disk shape flange is brought into face contact with a flat bearing face of a flange portion. Up to the stage, the flanged hexagon head bolt is the same as a bolt which does not have recessed and protruded portions, a variation in a fastening torque is small, and a fastening axial force of the bolt is stabilized. When the bolt is further fastened, the bearing face of the flange portion is inclined, and the recessed and protruded portions of the circular disk shape flange bite an inclined root portion of the bearing face of the flange portion.

  • Patent number: 6719510
Abstract: A fastener having a bolt and a threaded swageable collar. The bolt includes a head portion, a flange portion, and a shank portion which extends through two aligned apertures formed in adjacent panels. The shank portion includes a threaded gripping portion and a locking groove adjacent to the gripping portion. The collar is cylindrical having an internally threaded section and a swaging section whereby the collar is fastened to the bolt by threading the threaded section of the collar onto the threaded gripping section of the bolt and swaging the swage portion of the collar into the locking groove of the bolt.

  • Patent number: 6125526
Abstract: A method of fastening a first member to a second member. The first member has a first opening with first left handed threads that extend from a first surface to a second surface. A stud having a shaft with a first section having right handed threads that extend from an end to a first groove, a second section with second left handed threads that extend from the first groove to a second groove adjacent a head and a radial surface that extends on an angle from the second groove toward a peripheral surface on the head is obtained from a supply source. The shaft is inserted into the first opening to engage the first and second left handed threads and an initial torque is applied to the head to bring the radial surface into engagement with the first left handed threads. Thereafter, additional torque is applied to the head to cause the radial surface to engage and deform a portion of the first left handed threads as the peripheral surface is moved into engagement with the second surface.

  • Patent number: 4784549
Abstract: Axially-extending troughs in a bark of an internally-threaded collar receive setting balls of a driver that apply a torque to the collar through the balls bearing on the walls of the troughs. At a predetermined pre-load, the balls fail the bark and plow through it to develop circumferential furrows, and the torque application on the collar ends. A second torquing with balls at a different axial position fails the bark again at the same pre-load to compensate for any relaxation after the first torque application.

  • Patent number: 4772448
Abstract: A support pin system which is a non-welded system for fastening a first structural member, such as a nuclear reactor control rod guide tube flange, to a second structural member, such as nuclear reactor upper core plate, includes a support pin and nut. A first pin portion passes through the first member and has a threaded section which mates with the nut. A second pin portion has a solid body section and a split-leaf base section which biasingly engages a bore in the second member. The solid body section is accommodated by a close clearance fit. The split-leaf base section has an intermediate diameter which is less than the diameter of the solid body section. Thus, loads applied transversely to the system are reacted substantially in pure shear through the solid body section. The nut may be a locking nut having a crimpable cylindrical section integrally connected to an internally threaded section.

  • Patent number: 4588163
Abstract: A stem travel limiting apparatus provides a relatively tamper proof limit setting device for an adjustable valve stem. In a preferred embodiment, an internally threaded annular collar is positioned about an externally matingly threaded stem, the collar having a spaced gap in its annular body. A locking ring is positioned over the collar, and is of a size relative to the collar to develop sufficient force over the collar to partially close the gap and to force the threads of the stem and collar into distortion. The apparatus is positioned along the stem during assembly of a control valve to thereby provide a limit to a manually adjustable setting of the control valve.
