  • Patent number: 4907927
Abstract: A locking plate which is adapted for fastening insulation to a roof deck employs a locking grommet which snaps into the roofing plate and seats the head of the fastener. The locking grommet locks the fastener to the plate and maintains a constant fixed relationship at all times between the fastener head and the locking plate thereby preventing the head from popping up above the plate.

  • Patent number: 4897006
Abstract: Shape memory alloy spring washers passing from a flat shape to a truncated cone shape on exceeding a given critical temperature (Tc) can be stacked in opposition or in the same sense with identical and/or different washers, in order to bring about a development in stages of the pressure (P) applied by the stack of washers when the temperature (T) varies. These washers can advantageously be used for the bonding and polymerization of composite material parts (C), because they make it possible to simultaneously treat several parts in the same ventilated oven and in a less expensive manner.

  • Patent number: 4869633
Abstract: A lug nut device is provided to enable an adjustable, durable and lockable connection between a wheel and an axle of a vehicle. The lug nut device includes two components, a lug nut composed of hardened metal and a tapered washer composed of aluminum. The lug nut is comprised of a plurality of arbitrarily arranged rounded and flat sides. The tapered washer has a large surface area, allowing for self-centering and weight distribution. The tapered washer and lug nut are connected by press-fitting the base of the lug nut to the flat end of the tapered washer. The two components then are fixedly engaged to a bolt, adjustably connecting the wheel to the axle. The lug nut device is more securely fastened by the means of a socket or key whose interior cavity circumference is complimentary to the sides of the lug nut.

  • Patent number: 4781503
Abstract: A fastener assembly for securing roofing on soft insulation material to a solid base is formed of an axially elongated screw and a large surface washer. The screw has an elongated shank with a cutting tip at one end and a screw head at the other. A self-cutting thread is formed on the shank. The shank has a thread-free section extending from the screw head. The thread-free section has a diameter not greater than the diameter of the opening in the washer into which the screw is inserted. The washer has a countersunk area around the screw opening to receive the screw head in a recessed manner. The shank of the screw, at a spaced distance from the screw head and in the axially extending region of the thread-free section has a stop or similar member which forms a support for the washer. With the assembly secured to the solid base, the washer is tiltable relative to the screw. Accordingly, the fastener assembly can be stepped on without any damaging transfer of stress from the washer to the screw.

  • Patent number: 4727700
Abstract: A ceiling or wall for a partition structure that contains framing members has the usual sheets of wallboard applied side-by-side to the framing members so that seams exist between the edges of adjacent sheets. Improved fire resistance is derived from runners which extend between the framing members directly behind the seams so as to serve as fire stops and as additional support for the wallboard sheets. Each runner is at its ends attached to the framing members between which it extends and further consists of several components which slip relative to each other, so that the length of the runner remains constant even though its components experience thermal expansion. This prevents the runners from bowing and pushing the wallboard sheets away from the framing members in the event of a fire. The runners further receive and anchor edge fasteners.

  • Patent number: 4650385
Abstract: A daze fastener system for connecting two or more structural elements wherein the structural elements and fastener parts have substantially different coefficient of thermal expansion physical property characteristics is employed in this invention. By providing frusto-conical abutting surfaces between the structural elements and fastener parts any differences in thermal expansion/contraction between the parts is translated to sliding motion and avoids deleterious thermal stresses in the connection. • Patent number: 4630984
Abstract: An assembly for fastening a compressible layer of insulation includes a threaded screw projecting through the center of a flat circular disk of a resilient plastic material. A central hub on the disk is received between the head and a flange spaced below the head to hold the disk adjacent the head, the hub being defined in part by resilient fingers which flex outwardly to let the flange pass through the hub as the screw and the disk are assembled together. An annular surface is formed on the underside of the disk at the periphery thereof to engage the insulation and ribs which decrease in width are formed on the underside of the disk and project radially from the hub to the peripheral surface so that an uplift force causes the disk to flex upwardly progressively from the periphery toward the center.

A first normal thread extends from a base reference surface to a height on the fastener shank to permit full thread engagement by a nut. Axially outwardly along the shank from that point, there is provided a second thread of reduced crest diameter but still of sufficient size to engage the threads on the nut. • Patent number: 4312145
Abstract: The push frame (12) of a tractor-scraper (10) normally has a plurality of cover plates (14) relasably secured therebelow to provide access internally of the push frame. In standard practice, the cover plates are secured to the push frame by a plurality of bolts and the heads of the bolts are subjected to wear and possible breaking-off due to their exposure upon operation of the tractor-scraper. This invention provides a mounting assembly (13) for expeditiously removing and replacing the cover plates upon wearing or breaking-off of the heads (19) of bolts (18) thereof by providing an internally and externally threaded bushing (24) which is threadably connected on the push frame and is further threadably connected to each bolt. Thus, a workman need only engage the bushing with a socket wrench or the like to release the bolt and thus the cover plate upon wearing or breaking-off of the heads of the bolts.
