Patent number: 4766923Abstract: A freeze safe valve has a valve body, a valve gate, a washer, a fastener having an interior channel, and a plug placed in the channel of the fastener. With fluid pressure in the normal downstream direction, the plug will be held in place, and the valve will function as a standard valve. However, when net pressure exists in the upstream direction at a certain predetermined level due to, for example, the formation of ice on the downstream side of the valve, the plug will become dislodged so that fluid may flow back to the upstream side. This will alleviate the pressure on the downstream side and ideally will preclude breakage of the downstream pipe or the valve itself.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1986Date of Patent: August 30, 1988Inventor: Bernarr G. In the preferred and illustrated embodiment, a nut suitable for installation on a fireplug is provided, the nut having an external groove to receive a snap ring therein. A sleeve is joined to the nut by means of a cooperative groove receiving the snap ring therein. This enables the sleeve to free wheel around the nut. The free wheeling sleeve prevents theft and pilferage of the nut once it is installed on a fireplug at the top end to support the stem in the fireplug.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1986Date of Patent: September 1, 1987Assignee: Productive Instrument & Machine Inc.Inventor: Claud Skipper

Patent number: 4686808Abstract: A holddown to be used in conjunction with a headed fastener, a roofing system and a method utilizing the same. The holddown comprises a disc-shaped spring and a body encasing the spring. The fastener is interpositionable within a hole in the body of the holddown and displacement of the fastener applies a compressive force to the holddown. The spring is deformable from an unbiased position to a biased postion by the compressive force. The body is deformable from an unconstrained shape to a constrained shape by the deformation of the spring. The holddown is usable in conjunction with both the fastener and pliant filler to affix roofing material in a watertight relationship to a roof structure and to maintain the same in position against the forces applied by the wind.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1983Date of Patent: August 18, 1987Assignees: John D. Patent number: 4683670Abstract: A signboard of a type used to carry replaceable letters or similar indicia can be improved by using at least one easily operated holder to connect the signboard to a support such as a wall. This permits the signboard to be easily removed from the support so that it can be held in a convenient manner as the content of a sign on the signboard is changed or altered.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1985Date of Patent: August 4, 1987Assignee: Eldon Industries, Inc.Inventor: Donald L. Patent number: 4659273Abstract: A lug attachment for detecting the removal of a wheel comprising a frangible shroud and an internally threaded member for attaching said shroud to the lug of a wheel mounting plate. The threaded member comprises a pair of split sleeve sections that laterally flex for engagement with the threads of a lug by an axial thrust. Thereafter, an axial thrust of said shroud clamps and secures the threaded member onto the lugs. Means formed on said shroud retains the threaded member in its axial position of attachment to a lug and prevents removal except by breakage.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1985Date of Patent: April 21, 1987Assignee: Trailer Marine TransportInventor: Daniel P. Patent number: 4631887Abstract: A roof membrane anchoring system is provided of the non-penetrating type, including a base member with an enlarged head carried by an upstanding stem, a disc, and a socket cap which includes a top, depending legs, and feet carried at the bottoms of the legs, the cap being of somewhat resilient material. A clamp is provided for constricting the legs after the socket cap is placed over the head. When uplift forces on the membrane act to deform the disc, it acts against surfaces of the feet of the socket cap, to urge the feet together, thereby providing greater security of the socket cap during periods of high wind velocity. The base member has a passage for insertion therethrough of a fastener, the passage including a quantity of self-curing adhesive material which is cured after insertion of the linear fastener, the adhesive material serving to adhere the linear fastener either to the base member or to a holding element for the linear fastener, or both.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1986Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Inventor: Thomas F. Patent number: 4630168Abstract: A fastener (36,58) attaches a composite material external skin (2) of an aircraft structure to another structure (4). Fastener (36,58) has a metallic head (44,62) and shaft (38,60) and a dielectric cap (50,70) covering a top portion of head (44,62). Head (44,62) and cap (50,70) are received into a countersink hole (6) in skin (2). Cap (50,70) is resilient and fills gap (16) between the top portion of head (44,62) and the inner sidewalls of hole (6). Cap (50,70) forms, with skin (2), an aerodynamic surface which is sufficiently continuous to receive and maintain a crack-free coat of paint having a uniform thickness. The top (52) of cap (50) of internally wrenching fastener (36) is an integral layer of uniform thickness. The top (72) of cap (70) of fastener (58) includes a uniform layer covering the head's top surface around a tool receiving recess (66) and a body of material (74) filling recess (66) and positioned therein after structures (2,4) are attached.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventor: James Hunt

Patent number: 4621230Abstract: A device for assembly with a bolt or screw upon installation thereof to prevent tampering therewith, including a jacket member for encircling the enlarged fastener head with a collar portion for disposition adjacent its underside to clamp the jacket member in place upon tightening of the fastener and a cap member configured to fit within the jacket member to enclose the fastener head therewithin. A rounded annular channel is formed within the anterior wall of the jacket member and a square annular rib is formed on the outer surface of the cap member to provide a snap-tight interference fit therebetween. The interior jacket wall and the outer cap surface are also tapered at slightly differing angles to provide a supplementary interference friction fit. The snap-fit between the jacket and cap members is sufficiently strong that they cannot be separated using conventional tools without damaging or destroying the members. A special tool is provided for authorized separation of the jacket and cap members.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1983Date of Patent: November 4, 1986Assignee: Carolina Moldings, Inc.Inventors: Jack S. Patent number: 4611379Abstract: A tamper-proof or security threaded fastener assembly adapted for use with standard size bolts and screws is provided to reduce or eliminate the unauthorized removal of threaded fasteners from their desired position of fixation. A cap portion is adapted to completely encase the head of the bolt or screw such that, after tightening of the bolt or screw, access thereto is restricted to a special non-standard tool. In one embodiment, a nut portion is provided comprising an elongate strip provided with a threaded hole to receive the bolt and a perpendicularly disposed flange. An additional hole appropriately provided in the base or plate through which the bolt is attached is adapted to receive the flange of the nut portion in a manner which prevents the nut portion from being rotated after the bolt is tightened and fully drawn up to the base or plate.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1985Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: H&E Machine CompanyInventor: Robert L.
