  • Patent number: 4715626
Abstract: A clamping sleeve for pipes consists of a rubberelastic sealing ring (1) and a clamping ring (2) which encircles the sealing ring and has clamping plates (5) which are directed radially outward, are located opposite one another and are penetrated by a centrally arranged clamping screw (6). The clamping screw (6) is supported on the clamping plates by intermediate pieces (8, 9), of which one is arranged between the head (7) of the clamping screw and the clamping plate, whereas the other directly forms the nut for the clamping screw. The intermediate pieces (8, 9) have a cylindrical cross-section, so that they sit with a cylindrical surface against the adjacent clamping plate (5). Furthermore, the position of the intermediate pieces (8, 9) is fixed at the clamping plate (5) by stops (11, 12). The swivelling capacity of the intermediate pieces (8, 9) relative to the clamping plates (5) makes possible an inclined position of the clamping plates (5) relative to the clamping screw (6) and relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 4661031
Abstract: A fastener assembly, having a threaded male and female member, is disclosed. One of the members has substantially conventional threads and the other member has two threaded portions rotationally offset relative to one another. Direction of the offset determines whether a compressive or tensile preload force occurs in the assembled fastener. Magnitude of the preload force is controlled by the extent of the offset. One of the threaded portions includes at least two, preferably about four, tapered threads which permit gradual distribution of the preload force and thereby prevent plastic deformation of the threads. The assembled fastener is substantially vibration proof, and, due to the well controlled permanent preload force, is highly fatigue resistant.

  • Patent number: 4650385
Abstract: A daze fastener system for connecting two or more structural elements wherein the structural elements and fastener parts have substantially different coefficient of thermal expansion physical property characteristics is employed in this invention. By providing frusto-conical abutting surfaces between the structural elements and fastener parts any differences in thermal expansion/contraction between the parts is translated to sliding motion and avoids deleterious thermal stresses in the connection. An essential feature for isotropic homogeneous material connections is that at least two sets of mating surfaces are required wherein each set of mating surfaces have line element extensions that pass through a common point.

  • Patent number: 4370083
Abstract: A multiple threaded fastener assembly includes at least two hingedly interconnected members, each having a threaded bore therein constituting a nut for coaction with threaded bolts. The bolts operatively engage workpiece openings. Tightening of respective sets of interengaged bolts and nuts of the fastener assembly is effected by a single wrench operation since the torque or restraining force on one member is provided through the connection to the other member. Detents and indicating indicia may be provided for positive locating action of the members.

  • Patent number: 4367664
Abstract: An insert type drive tool (20) is configured to be insertable within both a square-shaped cavity (32) and a hexagonal shaped cavity (40) of the same size. In cross section shank (24) of tool (20) includes a pair of major sides (26) disposed in spaced parallel relationship to each other, and a pair of minor sides (28) also disposed in spaced parallel relationship to each other. The minor sides (28) are disposed substantially perpendicularly to the major sides (26) and are spaced apart from each other substantially the same distance separating the major sides (26). Two pairs of intermediate sides (30) extend diagonally from each end of major sides (26) at an angle of approximately 120.degree. to intersect an adjacent end of a corresponding minor side (28).

  • Patent number: 4352614
Abstract: A device for effecting a generally tamper resistant threaded connection. The device includes a threaded fastener and a tool for driving and setting the fastener. The fastener has an internally threaded body portion, and a hollow cylindrical axially extending tool engaging portion spaced radially outward from the body portion and interconnected therewith. The tool engaging portion has a generally serrated driving surface defined by a plurality of circumferentially spaced recesses for receiving a like number of complementary shaped projections on the tool. The recesses and the projections cooperate to establish a driving connection between the fastener and the tool when the tool is turned in a direction for driving and setting the fastener. When the tool is turned in a direction for backing-off the fastener once it has been set, the recesses and the projections cooperate to slidingly eject the projections from the recesses to break the driving connection between the tool and the fastener.

  • Patent number: 4315393
Abstract: An insert is disclosed for insertion into a U-shaped channel member for supporting hangers carrying cables, pipes, conduits and the like. The U-channel is a structural support element which is secured to a suitable substrate or, more commonly, embedded in concrete walls. The insert includes a main body portion of greater length than width having a threaded bore therethrough for insertion of a bolt therein, the bolt holding the support member in place. The insert also includes integral resilient legs extending from the rear wall of the insert and contacting the rear wall of the channel member, the legs biasing the insert forwardly against the side walls of the channel member.

  • Patent number: 4285488
Abstract: A swivel chair having a main screw connected to the chair seat and rotatably supported in a mounting assembly on the chair base enabling rotation of the seat relative to the base without varying the height of the seat. Height adjusting apparatus provides for the selective adjustment of the height of the chair seat and includes a nut member threadably mounted on the screw member. The nut member has a thread that is deformed into frictional engagement with the screw thread and when a seating load is applied to the nut member, the magnitude of the frictional resistance of the nut to turning on the screw is increased. As a result, rotation of the chair seat and the screw member will cause the nut member to rotate relative to the mounting assembly and remain fixed relative to the screw member to prevent an unintended varying of the height of the chair seat when it is rotated during use, while still enabling manual intended rotation of the nut when the chair height is to be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4285264
Abstract: A hollow wall fastener using a conventional toggle bolt and a toggle anchor which is pointed and which has an open groove for receiving the toggle bolt. An end cap within the anchor has an internally threaded head portion and a frangible portion which allows the head portion to separate from the rest of the end cap when the end of the bolt is threaded into the head portion, thus twisting the frangible portion until it breaks. Thereafter the head portion prevents withdrawal of the toggle bolt from the anchor. The end of the groove has a threaded portion which cooperates with a threaded portion of an aperture opposite the groove to permit the anchor to pivot with respect to the bolt to a position where the bolt is threadably engaged and locked in the threaded portions of the anchor, forming a "T" configuration behind the surface of the hollow wall. Thereafter the bolt may be rotated to draw the anchor tightly against the interior of the hollow wall.
