Patent number: 5350264Abstract: A blind fastener for fastening panels, especially panels made of composite materials, comprises a fastener body received within aligned openings in the panels and a cylindrical stem passing through the fastener body. The stem has an enlarged stem head spaced from an inner end of the fastener body which projects inwardly beyond the inner surface of the inner panel. A deformable sleeve mounted on the stem between the stem head and the inner end of the fastener body is a two-piece sleeve comprising a forming sleeve and a containment sleeve. The forming sleeve is made of a relatively soft, deformable material, whereas the containment sleeve is made of a relatively hard, nondeformable material. When the stem moves outwardly through the fastener body during setting of the fastener, the forming sleeve deforms to a fully set condition in overlying contact with the inner surface of the inner panel, forming a large bearing area that does not damage the composite material of the panels.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1993Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Assignee: Monogram Aerospace Fasteners, Inc.Inventor: Edgar L. Patent number: 5344252Abstract: This key comprises a pair of elongated blocks each having a tapered recess; a tapered pin adapted to be inserted in a tubular tapered portion which is formed by bringing the pair of blocks together in such a manner that the tapered recesses confront, and mutually displaceable in the axial direction; and a clamping member adapted to be screwed into a threaded portion provided on one end of the tapered pin or the tubular tapered portion. The key obtained by assembling these parts can be fitted into a key groove provided between a driving member and a driven member. The clamping member is rotated to mutually displace the tapered pin with respect to the tubular tapered portion in the axial direction, thereby separating the blocks from each other, thus pressing the outer walls of the blocks against the inner wall of the key groove. As a result, the key is firmly fitted into the key groove, and the drive member and the driven member can be securely coupled together with a higher reliability.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1993Date of Patent: September 6, 1994Inventor: Hiroshi Kakimoto
