  • Patent number: 6547475
Abstract: An anti-theft device secures a removable body part, such as a viewing unit, to a microscope stand. The device is intended to replace a common thumbscrew used to fix the location of a removable body part in a corresponding guide of the microscope stand, and comprises a housing threaded into a tapped hole in the stand for carrying a plunger and a driver both movable within an axial passageway in the housing. The driver is threadably adjustable by hand between driving and non-driving positions with respect to the plunger, and the plunger has a limited range of motion so that it may retract enough to allow the removable body part to be adjusted within the guide but not enough to allow the body part to be removed from the guide when the driver is in a non-driving position. The housing is tightened onto the microscope body by a tool such as a wrench, and the driver is held captive by a snap ring fitting within an internal groove near a trailing end of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6526789
Abstract: A hitch pin used for releasably connecting a load carrier frame to a receiving hitch attached to a carrying vehicle for transporting objects such as bicycles on the load carrier. The hitch pin includes a bolt having a head portion opposite a threaded section and a stem integrally formed between the head portion and the threaded section. A sleeve includes a bore, sized to receive the head and the stem of the bolt which is slidably held inside the bore of the sleeve using a transverse pin, secured inside the bore of the sleeve and passing through an elongate slot in the stem of the bolt. When the sleeve is rotated, the transverse pin transmits the rotation to the bolt providing the turning motion used during connecting of the frame to the receiving hitch. The connection may be made in two stages with hand-tightening as the first stage, followed by application of mechanical force, operating from a set screw, through the bolt to intensify the contact between the frame and the receiving hitch.

  • Patent number: 5913650
Abstract: 216-type screws and KS-type screws are two types of fastening devices typically used to restrict access to the chambers of building entrance protector (BEP) enclosures used in telecommunications applications. Access to such chambers is limited to those users who have special tools designed for one or the other type of screw. The present invention is a screw that can be actuated using either the special tools designed for 216-type screws or the special tools designed for KS-type screws. In particular, screws of the present invention have a hexagon-shaped outer surface like a 216-type screw and a hexagon shaped recess with a cylindrical upstanding post in the middle of the recess like a KS-type screw.

  • Patent number: 5857798
Abstract: A locking cap for deterring unauthorized removal of golf course flags consists of a bolt, the head of which is loosely captured within a protective shell. The bolt head has a socket, shaped to receive a specialized removal tool and this shell has a hole at its top so the socket can be accessed by the tool. The flag is mounted on a tube, terminated at its upper end by a cap with a hole large enough to loosely pass the threaded shank of the bolt. The flag staff or "pin" marking each golf course hole has a threaded hole at the top to receive the bolt shanks. When the shank bottoms in the hole, enough space remains between the bolt head and the shoulder of the pin so that the shell and the end cap are loosely captured, permitting the flag to freely rotate around the pin.

  • Patent number: 5827029
Abstract: A device for restricting access to the head (10) of a fastener (9) has a first part (18) including an attaching flange (26) adapted to be captive between the head (10) and a member 14 in which the shank (12) of the fastener is to be received. The first part (18) has a recess (13) which the head (10) is accommodated and the second part of the device (20) is dimensioned to be slidingly received in the recess to close the recess without engaging the head (10). The first and second parts (18, 20) have formations (30, 38) which cooperate when the second part 20 is sufficiently inserted into the recess (30), to prevent withdrawing of the second part (20) from engagement with the first part (18), whereby to prevent access to the fastener. The first and second parts comprise frustroconical external surfaces (22, 24), which in use taper in a direction away from the member (14) to which the device is to be secured in use.

Abstract: A vehicle lug nut cover for covering, protecting and providing an ornamental decoration to a wheel lug nut of a vehicle. The nut cover has a shell with a closed portion and a plurality of sidewalls extending downwardly from the closed portion. The sidewalls define a generally hollow cavity and terminate in an outward extending flange rim adapted for adjoining a flat surface of a wheel rim when the lug nut cover is installed over a bolt and lug nut for mounting the wheel rim on a vehicle. The lug nut cover further comprises three leaf-springs for inserting into the hollow cavity of the shell. Each leaf-spring is adapted for engaging a side face of the wheel lug nut over which the lug nut cover is installed. The lug nut cover further comprises retaining members for retaining the three leaf-springs in its hollow cavity.

  • Patent number: 5794463
Abstract: A cable lock attachment for portable articles that is protected from tampering, whether by twisting or otherwise, when the associated cable lock is operational. The attachment comprises a shell with concentric axial ports, one large and one small, and opposed lateral ports. The small port is in proximity to a threaded socket in the article. A collar having a wide head and narrow stem fits through the large port and the stem fits into the small port with the head remaining inside the shell and the stem abutting the article. The stem is secured to the article by a screw that has an internal hex head. The stem is slightly longer than the thickness of the shell so that the shell is free to swivel about the stem when secured. The cable extends through the lateral ports, preventing access to the screw when the cable lock is secured.
