Abstract: A quick and safe manner of making a sheet (15) suitable for filing, for example in a loose-leaf binder, is to provide it with a strip (11) along the one side edge of the sheet, said strip being provided with holes (14) for the rings in the file. In order to make the application of such strips (11) simple and precise, according to the invention there is used an apparatus comprising pins (5) upon which the strips (11) can be pushed down. Furthermore, on the sides of the apparatus there are guides (9) which can be displaced in the transverse direction of the apparatus and set in accordance with the size of the sheet, so that the sheet is placed precisely over the adhesive area (12) on the strip. In this position, after a cover foil has been removed from the adhesive (12), the sheet can be pressed down for sticking, after which the sheet with the strip applied can be removed from the apparatus and used for filing.
Abstract: A conventional envelope stuffing machine is provided with a chopper of cutter for providing a stack of individual inserts from pre-connected booklets. The chopper operates in synchronism with the stuffing machine through the provision of a pair of simple cam-operated switches.
Abstract: An inner book clamp for clamping and conveying inner books in an inner book processing machine includes a pair of clamp jaws having parallel clamp plates, the jaws being movable together in a first direction and one of said jaws being movable in a second direction, transverse to the first direction, to vary the spacing therebetween. The movement in the transverse direction of the movable jaw permits adjustment of the clamping force to be applied to an inner book position between the jaws and the movable jaw will self-lock in the book engaging position in response to a force in the opening direction.
Abstract: This safety device for binding machines, which prevents broken clamp locking mechanism springs from engaging and damaging roughing and trimming saw blades or the clamp carrier cam, provides a collar-like means to be securely mounted on the shaft which supports the lower end of the clamp spring. Anchored to the collar are two protruding pins which project on either side of the clamp spring to provide supports upon which the broken segement of spring may rest rather than dangling into the saw blades or coming into contact with the clamp carrier cam.
Abstract: An index sheet for a bound volume consisting of a panel of flexible material, having a width corresponding to the width of the pages of the volume, a tab on the right-hand edge of the panel to carry indicia, adhesive on the left-hand edge of the panel, and a removable cover for the adhesive which can be removed when the panel is inserted between the pages of the volume thus securing the panel in position.
