  • Patent number: 9260664
Abstract: A method is disclosed for collecting so-called residual coke from a coke oven chamber while the door of the coke oven chamber is being opened. A collecting device is moved up against a guide plate arranged under the door of the coke oven chamber before the door of the coke oven chamber is opened, and the coke that falls out of the coke oven chamber falls across the guide plate into a collecting device. The collecting device is moved to a horizontal position after the coke has been collected so that the upper edge of the collecting device is at the height of the bottom of the coke oven chamber. The push-out device of the coke oven operating machine moves over the collecting device between the suspensions so that the coke is pushed out of the collecting device back into the coke oven chamber.

  • Patent number: 8821694
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of positioning service equipment of a coal-charging larry cart at charging ports of a coke oven, wherein a rail-guided larry cart is moved on the roof of a coke oven and is positioned at locations known by a machine control system and corresponding to charging ports in the oven roof in order to charge the oven chambers, and wherein then at least one piece of service equipment of the coal-charging larry cart is guided to the charging ports by horizontal biaxial positioning movements. According to the invention, an optical measurement method is used after each positioning of the larry cart to detect the coordinates of at least one marking that is applied to the oven roof and that has a fixed relationship with the center axis of a charging port within a measurement field that is predefined by the measurement method and to compare them with reference values that are stored in the machine control system for the marking.

  • Patent number: 4314787
Abstract: A coal-charging apparatus includes a charging car with charging bins to discharge coal through filling tubes into charging holes in the roof of an oven chamber. A feed-screw conveys coal from the bottom of a charging bin to a trough communicating with a fixed filling tube. A peripheral trough on the bottom of this tube is filled with sand or liquid and receives a peripheral seal lip on the inside of a movable sealing tube. Hooks on the outside and at the top of the movable sealing tube engage a ring that is suspended by bearings at both ends of a stirrup. The filling tube is raised and lowered by a linkage system that includes a lever supported by a platform and operated by a piston and cylinder assembly. A closure plate is operated by a linkage including a lever supported by a platform and engaged with a piston and cylinder assembly. • Patent number: 4189272
Abstract: Coke is charged into a coke oven chamber by positioning a filling hopper over an opening in the roof of the chamber and evacuating the chamber. A filling tube is lowered from the hopper to the bottom of the chamber and coal is fed from the hopper through the filling tube into the chamber while gas is evacuated from the latter during the filling. The filling tube is raised as the chamber is filled with coal through the tube and the velocity with which the tube is raised is controlled as a function of the subatmospheric pressure generated in the chamber by the evacuation of gas therefrom. Alternatively, the subatmospheric pressure generated in the chamber is controlled as a function of the velocity with which the tube is raised.

  • Patent number: 4181459
Abstract: In the handling and charging of pre-heated coal, the coal is transported from a coal storage container to the oven chambers by an enclosed continuous conveyor system. The coke oven chambers are charged individually in a continual manner by transporting a measured amount of coal from the container, sufficient to fill a respective chamber. If coal, due to a malfunction, passes beyond the intended charging hole, it can jam the drive area causing extensive damage. To prevent this, a safety device is provided which includes a sensing device, e.g. a pivotally mounted switch for determining the presence of coal on the conveyor and associated therewith, a time delay system for determining if a particular amount of coal, to which the sensor is responding, is of sufficient volume to cause jamming of the conveyor drive system.

  • Patent number: 4176994
Abstract: Coke oven charging apparatus includes an improved jumper pipe and charging hole sealing mechanism for conveying charging gases from an oven being charged to an adjacent oven. A substantially gas-tight coupling is formed between the larry car charging pipes and the oven charging holes, and between the jumper pipe and a charging hole in the adjacent oven, to prevent the escape of charging gases into the atmosphere and to prevent air from being drawn into the flow of charging gases. Exclusion of air reduces the temperature in the jumper pipe by preventing combustion of the charging gases, and minimizes adverse effects on the coking process in the adjacent oven.
