With Closures For Ports And Means On Vehicle To Manipulate Them Patents (Class 414/164)
  • Patent number: 8714899
Abstract: A coal-charging larry cart for lifting lids out of charging holes in the roof of a coke oven and for cleaning the charging-hole jambs has a lid lifter with a lift magnet and a jamb cleaner with a cleaning head. Respective travel frames are horizontally movable on rails on the cart in a first horizontal direction, and respective support frames inside the respective travel frames are each movable relative to the respective travel frame in a second horizontal direction transverse to the first direction. Respective carriages horizontally displaceable in the first direction on the support frames carry the support arms for horizontal movement of each of the support arms relative to the respective support frame between an operating position in which the lift magnet or the cleaning head is aligned with a charging hole in the roof of the coke oven and a rest position spaced from the charging hole.

  • Patent number: 8596945
Abstract: An apparatus for charging chambers of a coke oven has a horizontal screw conveyor with a downwardly open outlet and a telescopic charging chute below the outlet having an upper intake funnel and a telescopic lower part alignable with the charging ports by horizontal and longitudinal displacement. A support frame carries the intake funnel and a lifter for vertically displacing the telescopic lower part. A traveling frame in which the support frame moves transversely can also move longitudinally on rails. A seal on a top side of the support frame surrounds the intake funnel of the telescopic charging chute, works together with a horizontal lower flange surface on the outlet of the horizontal screw conveyor, and permits horizontal movement of the intake funnel relative to the outlet of the horizontal screw conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4572710
Abstract: A remote control apparatus for removing from one of a number of filter pits, and loading for protective storage in a disposal drum, radioactive filters used in nuclear power generating stations, and for replacing spent filters. The apparatus includes a transportable base adapted to be placed adjacent the respective filter pit and a hoist mechanism mounted on the base. The hoist mechanism includes a vertical tower or mast mounted on the base, a generally horizontal boom mounted on and extending outwardly from the top of the mast, a grab mechanism for engaging various specially adapted articles, including spent filters to be removed and new filters for replacement, means for operating the grab mechanism from a remote location, a lift mechanism for supporting the grab mechanism from the outer end of the boom and for raising and lowering it in a vertical path, and means for operating the lift mechanism from the remote location.

  • Patent number: 4515660
Abstract: Apparatus for removing charging hole covers and for cleaning sealing surfaces is carried by a charging car that is movable along an oven roof of a battery of horizontal coke oven chambers. The apparatus includes a support member carried by guides for vertical movement on the charging car. A pivot head is carried by a shaft to pivot about a first axis on the support member. The first axis is inclined at an angle of 45.degree. to vertical. A magnetic gripper is carried by a shaft to rotate about a second axis on the pivot head. A charging hole frame cleaner includes a cleaning tool carried by a shaft to rotate about a third axis on the pivot head. The second and third axes are disposed in a plane at an angle to one another on opposite sides of the first axis and coplanar with the first axis.

  • Patent number: 4151919
Abstract: A coke oven hopper truck is movable along a coke oven cover which has therein filling holes closed by removable filling covers. The hopper truck has supported thereon a lifting device including an electromagnet which lifts and lowers the filling covers from and into the filling holes so that the filling covers may be removed from the filling holes, whereby coal may be charged through the filling holes into the coke oven chamber. The movable hopper truck has supported thereon repositories for supporting the filling covers after they have been removed from the filling holes by the lifting device. The repositories are movable with the hopper truck along the coke oven cover. The repositories have therein recesses dimensioned to receive therein the filling covers. Cleaning tools such as scrapers or brushes are provided along the edges of the recesses, and the lifting device rotates the filling covers against the cleaning tools to thereby clean the filling covers.
