Patent number: 8088327Abstract: A rotary charging device for a shaft furnace commonly comprises a rotary distribution configured to distribute charge material on a charging surface in the shaft furnace. A rotatable structure supports the rotary distribution means and a stationary support rotatably supports the rotatable structure. According to the invention, the charging device is equipped with an inductive coupling device including a stationary inductor fixed to the stationary support and a rotary inductor fixed to the rotatable structure. The stationary inductor and the rotary inductor are separated by a radial gap and configured as rotary transformer for achieving contact-less electric energy transfer from the stationary support to the rotatable structure by means of magnetic coupling through the radial gap for powering an electric load arranged on the rotatable structure and connected to said rotary inductor.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2007Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Emile Breden, Lionel Hausemer, Emile Lonardi, Guy Thillen

Patent number: 5755837Abstract: A pyrolysis gasifier includes a first auger (26) which moves carbon from a carbon collection tank (24) through an air lock valve (30) to a carbon holding tank (28). The gasifier includes an inner cylindrical sleeve (80) which is configured such that there is a small air gap between it and an interior wall of the gasifier (16). The air lock valve (30) includes an inlet member (96) which connects the housing to a connecting tube from the first auger (26). A plate (100) within the housing is mounted such that in a closed position, the plate is sealingly positioned against a lower edge of the inlet member (96), while in an open position, the plate is away from the inlet member, permitting carbon to move into the carbon holding tank. A fuel spreader apparatus 53 is positioned at the top portion of the gasifier. It includes a stirring rod (44) and two opposed fuel paddle assemblies (67, 69) at the lower end thereof to spread the fuel over the cross-sectional area of the gasifier.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1997Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Assignee: Thermal Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Leonard G. Patent number: 5046908Abstract: The installation comprises a chute for distributing the charging material, a skip transport system, a closed casing containing a device for the controlled sluicing of the charging material between the discharge by the skips and the distribution chute, a lower sealing valve and a proportioning valve opening symmetrically about a central axis, and a funnel-shaped hopper suspended rotatably within a sealed casing. A closing and material-deflecting plate is located in the hopper, this plate being movable vertically and axially within the hopper. A valve is associated with each of the skips in order to regulate the flow of material from the skips towards the hopper.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1989Date of Patent: September 10, 1991Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Giovanni Cimenti, Emile Lonardi

Patent number: 4307987Abstract: The profile of material deposited on the hearth of a pressurized furnace is controlled by means of a charging installation including a lower charging bell which has, suspended therefrom, a variable geometry distributor which may be controlled to select the point of deposition of material delivered to the furnace. The charging bell cooperates with an intermediate storage hopper, positioned within a hermetically sealable casing, whereby the hopper may be alternately filled with material and emptied by permitting the material to fall onto the distributor via an annular opening defined when the bell is lowered.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Paul Wurth S.A.Inventors: Edouard Legille, Pierre Mailliet, Rene Mahr, Pierre Mailliet
