  • Patent number: 5224811
Abstract: Cigarettes are restrained by arresting a cigarette oriented askew relative to the other cigarettes flowing into a hopper before that cigarette blocks the distribution channels of the hopper, thus stopping the manufacturing process. An arrested cigarette is furthermore detected. The hopper equipped with the restraining device, particularly a hopper for distributing cigarettes, contains a set of gratings (2) halfway up it, made up of a fixed grating (20) above which there is a movable grating (21) actuated with a translatory reciprocating movement. The set of gratings can restrain any cigarette (13A) presented and traveling crosswise in the hopper before this cigarette can go on to interrupt the flow through distribution channels (15) at the outlet of the hopper. A detection device (3) comprising in particular a photoelectric cell (31) and a light source (30) detects a space (13B) void of cigarettes, caused by the crooked cigarette restrained by the set of gratings, and transmits an alarm.

  • Patent number: 5211319
Abstract: Summarily, the present invention relates to equipment preventing separation in bulk material in connection with transfer and/or transport of such material. The equipment includes at least one compartment or tube (11) which is open straight through and through which the material is caused to flow when it is loaded onto a substructure. Suitably, the material is delimited to what can be likened to pillars, by its being caused to flow through an array of compartments or tubes (14) arranged mutually adjacent.

  • Patent number: 5178507
Abstract: A transport apparatus of the conventional type which includes a pair of hoppers mounted end to end on a support frame is modified by the provision of discharge augers extending from a position outside the hoppers on the underside of the hopper bottom upwardly and rearwardly therefrom to a discharge spout arrangement beyond a rear end wall of one of the hoppers. One of the augers therefore passes through the second hopper. One of the augers lies directly on the center line while the other is inclined away from the center line of the apparatus so that both discharge spouts of the augers are arranged equidistantly from the rear end wall and spaced slightly side to side.

  • Patent number: 4917558
Abstract: A device and method for holding and delivering a load of particulate material such as wood blocks, wood chips--dry or moist--, and briquettes. A main bin has an open upper end, closed side walls, and a closed bottom wall. A pair of drive shafts are journaled across and in the side walls of the main bin, with a motor therefor. A flexible belt has one end secured to a first such drive shaft on one side of the bin and another end secured to a second such drive shaft on the opposite side of the bin. A continuous chain driven by the motor drives said drive shafts, and there is an idler associated with the chain and one of the drive shafts for reversing the direction of rotation of that drive shaft, so that rotation of the two drive shafts slackens the belt enabling loading. The belt, when tightened and raised, drops the load into said main bin.

  • Patent number: 4867846
Abstract: Apparatus for feeding wood chips and the like into a treatment bin includes a feed tube assembly adapted to lead into the bin at a non-zero angle relative to the horizon. A plate is supported underneath the lower end of the feed tube assembly to collect in a mound wood chips fed through the feed tube. The height of the lower end of the feed tube assembly is adjusted so that the lower end of the feed tube assembly engages the mound of wood chips and thereby forms a seal with the mound. A plow is supported between the plate and the lower end of the feed tube assembly. Either the plate is stationary and the plow rotates or the plow is stationary and the plate rotates to knock wood whips from the mound off the plate. The apparatus optionally includes a feed screw mounted within and longitudinally of the feed tube assembly to compress the wood chips into the mound.

  • Patent number: 4861215
Abstract: A bin for storing and handling bulk material includes a fill opening through which material is introduced into the bin for storage and a discharge opening in a bottom portion of the bin through which material stored in the bin is discharged. The bin includes a primary bin support frame, and has at least one dump assembly with a bin floor panel that is hinged adjacent the discharge opening of the bin. The bin floor panel is pivotable from a generally horizontal position to an angled position for dumping bulk material into the discharge opening. The dump assembly includes a selectively collapsible secondary frame connected to the bin floor panel and pivotable with the bin floor panel. The bin further includes a flexible and collapsible bin wall portion connected to the primary and secondary frames and the bin floor panel to form an enclosure for storage of bulk materials.

  • Patent number: 4537554
Abstract: A system is described for loading newly mined material such as coal, into a shuttle car, at a location near the mine face where there is only a limited height available for a loading system. The system includes a storage bin (18) having several telescoping bin sections (20-23), and a shuttle car (14) having a bottom wall (64) that can move under the bin. With the bin in an extended position and filled with coal (FIG. 3), the bin sections can be telescoped (FIG. 4) to allow the coal to drop out of the bin sections and into the shuttle car, to quickly load the car. The bin sections can then be extended, so they can be slowly filled with more coal while awaiting another shuttle car.
