The adjustability of the joint assembly can enable the adjustable arm to engage the lifting apparatus directly above the center of mass of the wheel weight, thereby balancing the wheel weight. The lifting arm extends from a second end of the elongated body, and is engageable to the wheel weight.

  • Patent number: 7621507
Abstract: A tire carrier assembly for storing a spare tire includes a carrier for supporting the spare tire, a rotatable sheave, and a flexible member operably connecting the carrier to the sheave. The flexible member is wound upon and unwound from the sheave upon rotation of the sheave to raise and lower the carrier between a stowed position and a deployed position. A drive member is operably connected the sheave to selectively rotate the sheave. The connection between the sheave and the drive member is broken upon a predetermined torque indicative of a catastrophic event so that the sheave is freely rotatable to prevent failure of the flexible member. A preferred sheave has first and second portions that break away at the predetermined torque so that the reel is freely rotatable.

Abstract: A spare tire hoist may be provided. A retention cable may be used to retain a spare tire against a surface of a motor vehicle. A tensioning spring may be used to tension the retention cable when the spare tire is in a storage position. A wheel plate engages the spare tire and cooperates with the retention cable and the tensioning spring to maintain the spare tire in the storage position. The wheel plate may include an insert portion that engages a center aperture of a wheel rim of the spare tire. A flange portion that substantially surrounds the insert portion and engages a peripheral surface of the wheel rim may also be provided. A reinforcement ring may be included in the wheel plate, substantially coextensive with the insert portion and extending within a substantially hollow region of the flange portion. The reinforcement ring may provide mechanical reinforcement to the wheel plate.

Abstract: A tire hanger that is rapidly mountable and dismountable from a substantially horizontal hoist member of a vehicle-lifting device or hoist. The tire hanger includes a hoist engagement end and a tire engagement end. The hoist engagement end is configured for the rapid mounting and dismounting to the hoist member and is advantageously achieved without the use of fasteners to secure the tire hanger to the hoist member. Other embodiments provide for the tire engagement end to be pivotable from the hoist engagement end so that the tire hanger may be rotated from a stowed position to a deployed position while remaining in place on the hoist member. In yet other embodiments, a shield may be placed over the tire engagement end to protect workers from being jabbed from a deployed tire hanger that is not holding a tire.

Abstract: A hoist assembly includes a housing having a body sandwiched between metal plates connected to a mounting channel. The housing supports a rotary drive shaft which supports a rotary spool defining a groove receiving a cable having an inner end portion connected to the spool. A drive mechanism connects the shaft to the spool and produces one revolution of the spool for multiple revolutions of the drive shaft. A down stop member moves radially within the groove while engaging the cable, and an alternate one-piece down stop member surrounds the cable and engages the spool on opposite sides of the groove. An elongated wheel support bracket is connected to the outer end of the cable and has opposite inclined straight surfaces for self-centering wheels with center holes of different diameters. Another wheel support bracket has opposite end portions having pins projecting upwardly into lug holes within the wheel.

The flange secures the motorcycle hauling stabilizer in the truck bed and reinforces the bed wall, preventing the bed wall from bending when a motorcycle is strapped in. A motorcycle is secured for transport by pushing its front wheel between two wheel stabilizers which keep the front wheel and thus the rest of the motorcycle upright. The motorcycle hauling stabilizer preserves a truck bed's cargo area because it protrudes only slightly in to the truck bed. Thus, it does not need to be removed when not in use.
