Patent number: 6312210Abstract: A hauling accessory for an all terrain vehicle (ATV) includes a jack with a stationary member and a telescoping member, the telescoping member being operable via a threaded screw rod. The stationary member includes mounting brackets with a plurality of apertures for receiving fasteners capable of securedly fastening the stationary member to a luggage rack of the ATV such that the jack is oriented substantially perpendicular to the ground that supports the ATV. A lower rack including cargo support rods is affixed to a lower portion of the telescoping member of the jack. The cargo support rods are attached to telescoping arms whereby the width of the lower rack can be adjusted. An upper rack, which also includes cargo rods, is affixed to the stationary member of the jack adjacent the mounting bracket. In a preferred embodiment, the threaded screw rod is manually rotated via handle. In an alternative embodiment, the threaded screw rod is turned by a motor.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2000Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Inventor: Harold D. Lang

Patent number: 5993133Abstract: An apparatus designed to carry a spare tire against the underside of a vehicle, rearwardly thereof, featuring a mounting plate, for the tire assembly, attached to the first end of a cantilever arm. The second end of the cantilever arm is pivotally attached to a carrier base frame, which in turn is pivotally suspended from support members attached to the vehicle's frame, by four suspension bars. Movement of the base frame is controlled by operation of a driver tube incorporated into the base frame, comprised of a rectangular tube, inside of which are a drive screw, and a rectangular nut. Two cables attached to the nut are directed by pulleys to the center of the back transverse member of the frame, then right and left to the two back corners, thense to a point on each longitudinal member of the frame, then vertically to anchor points on the support members attached to the vehicle's frame. Clockwise rotation of the screw pulls cable into the tube, moving the base frame forward and upward into storage position.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1996Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Inventors: W. Patent number: 5975498Abstract: A spare tire and wheel assembly for a motor vehicle are held in a stored position under the vehicle body by a compact tire lift unit or winch having a primary flexible cable extending to the center of a retaining bracket releasably attached to the wheel hub. A secondary or auxiliary cable has one end portion secured by a crimp connector to the winch cable spaced above the bracket and extends through a laterally offset hole within the bracket to receive a stop fitting spaced below the bracket. In the event the winch cable breaks adjacent the retaining bracket, the spare tire and wheel assembly drops slightly to an inclined position supported by the stop fitting where rattling of the tire against the vehicle body alerts the driver of the vehicle that the winch cable has broken.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1998Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Deuer Manufacturing Inc.Inventor: Marvin H.
