  • Patent number: 7066705
Abstract: A refuse collection vehicle includes a chassis and a storage container that is detachably mounted on the chassis. The storage container has a rear wall with an opening therein and a sweep panel that is mounted in the rear wall. The sweep panel is movable between an open position which exposes the opening in the rear wall of the container and a closed position which covers the opening in the rear wall of the container. The refuse collection vehicle also includes a rear tailgate assembly that has a hopper which is adapted to receive refuse and a packer assembly which is adapted to cooperate with the sweep panel to move refuse from the hopper of the tailgate assembly into the storage. A method for loading refuse in a storage container and a storage container that is useful in practicing such method are also described.

  • Publication number: 20020136622
Abstract: A loading and compacting method and device for the trash container of a trash-collecting vehicle and a working method for such, wherein the trash container has a rear fill opening. The loading and compacting device has a loading bin coupled to the trash container on the back and a press plate, which is mounted on its upper end on an axis transverse to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle that can swivel in the back part in a swivel bearing, which can move parallel to the plane of the fill opening, plus a cleaning plate which is also mounted on an axis transverse to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and can swivel on the free end of the press plate, and a first force element to swivel the press plate. The goal is to provide a loading and compacting device with a large load volume, a high compacting capacity, optimal loading and the least possible stress on the trash container structure.

  • Patent number: 6398478
Abstract: A compaction mechanism for mounting to a storage body for refuse or recyclables includes a tailgate apparatus mountable to a rearward opening of the storage body. The tailgate apparatus includes a receiving hopper and a movable panel which in a compaction position provides a rear closure for the storage body. The moveable panel is pivotally mounted to a pair of side panels which are pivotable upon the rear end of the sides of the tailgate. The movable panel may be swept rearwardly while the side panels are pivotable to a high position and then after the side panels are lowered, the moveable panel is pivoted forwardly to sweep through the hopper and compact the swept articles into the opening of the storage body. The entire tailgate may be opened by operation of a cylinder and link mechanism mounted between the top of the storage body and the rear face of the tailgate.
