Abstract: The present disclosure provides a backhoe boom lock for engaging a hook member of a boom in a transport position. The boom lock includes a pair of side members disposed parallel to one another along a substantially horizontal axis, each side member having a first end and a second end. A transverse member is coupled between the first end of the pair of side members, the transverse member is configured to engage the hook member in the transport position. The boom lock further includes a pivot point defined near the second end of the pair of side members, the pair of side members being pivotally coupled with respect to the pivot point such that the boom lock pivots about the pivot point. A flange is disposed between the second ends of the pair of side members and is further disposed outwardly from the pivot point at an angle with respect to the horizontal axis. The boom lock also includes a counterweight body integrally coupled to the second ends of the pair of side members.

Abstract: A system and method for various levels of automation of a swing-to-hopper motion for a rope shovel. An operator controls a rope shovel during a dig operation to load a dipper with materials. A controller receives position data, either via operator input or sensor data, for the dipper and a hopper where the materials are to be dumped. The controller then calculates an ideal path for the dipper to travel to be positioned above the hopper to dump the contents of the dipper. In some embodiments, the controller outputs operator feedback to assist the operator in traveling along the ideal path to the hopper. In some embodiments, the controller restricts the dipper motion such that the operator is not able to deviate beyond certain limits of the ideal path. In some embodiments, the controller automatically controls the movement of the dipper to reach the hopper.

Abstract: A turret mounted compact tool carrier. The tool carrier is a small, ride-on machine. The tracked substructure is connected to the upper section of the machine by a 360 degree turret, which allows the upper section of the machine to face any direction, independent of the direction of the tracks. The distance between the tracks is adjustable, depending on particular application. An operator rides on a platform at the back of the upper section, while a work tool is connected to the front of the upper section. Thus, the operator always maintains a line-of-sight parallel to the direction of operation of the work tool, resulting in a greater degree of safety. The machine has lift arms that are extendable, allowing the work tool to be pushed without operating the tracks. These features give the tool carrier the ability to fully operate in narrow spaces and with limited operation of the tracks, resulting in more efficient use and less ground damage than traditional skid loaders.

Abstract: A method and system for automated operation of a work vehicle comprises a boom having a first end and a second end opposite the first end. A first hydraulic cylinder is associated with the boom. A first sensor detects a boom angle of a boom with respect to a support near the first end. An attachment is coupled to the second end of the boom. A second sensor detects an attachment angle of attachment with respect to the boom. A second cylinder is associated with the attachment. A switch accepts a command to enter a ready position state from another position state. A controller controls the first hydraulic cylinder to attain a boom angle within the target boom angular range and for controlling the second cylinder to attain an attachment angle within a target attachment angular range associated with the ready position state in response to the command.

Abstract: A backhoe for quick connection to an end of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) is described. A quick-connector mechanism is secured to a main mounting frame of the backhoe for securement to attaching components of an ATV. The backhoe has a pair of adjustable telescopic legs and a pivoting boom assembly, as is common with such apparatus. The pivoting boom assembly is connected to the main mounting frame of the backhoe by a piston operated pivoting mechanism for 180° lateral displacement of the boom assembly. The pivoting mechanism is comprised of a toothed sprocket secured to a vertical pivot connection at an attaching end of the boom assembly and fixedly secured to the main mounting frame. A sliding rack is provide with a series of teeth in toothed engagement with the toothed sprocket and secured for axial displacement by a fluid operated cylinder to cause the sprocket to turn and cause rotation of the pivot connection to thereby rotate the boom assembly within an arc of 180°.

Abstract: Disclosed is a mobile apparatus for earth moving and other operations, such as lifting and displacing loads. A frame is displaceable on wheels. An articulated operating arm is supported by the frame for carrying an implement, for instance a container, a digger bucket or wrecking hammer. One or more motors drive the wheels and move the operating arm. The operating arm consists of at least three articulations connected to each other for mutual pivoting on a lying axis. A control member such as a hydraulic cylinder is arranged between each pair of articulations. The third articulation has a greater length than the second one, such that when the articulations are folded against each other, the implement can be freely used at the free end of the first articulation. Thus, the last articulation can be transformed from an articulated arm into a single lifting arm.

Abstract: A backhoe (100) has a hydraulic cylinder (316, 317) with a piston (318, 319) that rotates a rotatable boom (108). A lockable slider block (322) slides on the piston. Movement of the lockable slider block in one direction is caused by a spring (328, 329) mounted around the piston, and in another direction is caused by the telescoping of the piston into the hydraulic cylinder. The backhoe includes a hydraulic valve (340) that controls hydraulic pressure to the hydraulic cylinder and a sensor (320) coupled to the hydraulic valve. Once locked to a position on the piston, the lockable slider block engages the sensor on each occasion the rotatable boom rotates beyond a preselected angle of rotation. Engagement of the sensor causes actuation of the hydraulic valve, thereby preventing further rotation of the boom by the hydraulic cylinder. Alternative embodiments have an encoder (120, 130) that digitizes the position of the boom, and a microcomputer (410) that is programmed to actuate the hydraulic valve.
