  • Patent number: 11795925
Abstract: An electricity generation system includes a treadle module embedded in a roadway in a housing configured perpendicular to traffic flow. The treadle module includes a treadle which moves between an at-rest position and an actuated position, an electric generator, and a hydraulic cylinder mounted within the housing and connected to the treadle. The hydraulic cylinder has a check valve. A hydraulic reservoir connected to the hydraulic cylinder by way of hydraulic conduit modulates hydraulic pressure in the electricity generation system. A method of recovering energy from automotive vehicles includes embedding the electricity generation system in the roadway and routing traffic flow over the treadle array such that the traffic flow repeatedly depresses the treadle stave. The depressed treadle stave actuates the generator to produce electricity. The hydraulic cylinder returns the treadle stave to its at-rest position.

Abstract: A diaphragm pump includes a bypass valve and spring that are easy to install and do not require support by a special plug or mounting bracket. The pump outlet is perpendicular to the input, causing the bypass valve and spring to operate laterally as seen from the pump base. When installed, the bypass spring is suspended between the bypass valve and a simple “T” insert that is held in place within the pump by interior elements of the pump, without need for a special plug or bracket. The longitudinal strength of the housing is increased by providing a cone-shaped outer wall having a scalloped inner surface. The conical shape enhances the housing's resistance to longitudinal forces applied to the diaphragm. The cusps of the scalloped shape provide wall support ribs and locations for assembly screws, while increasing the interior volume and reducing the pump weight.

The housing interface includes a gap which interposes between the high pressure pump and the low pressure pump. A layer of substantially stagnant fuel is trapped, in use, in the gap to reduce heat transfer from the high pressure pump to the low pressure pump.

Abstract: A method and apparatus provides a continuous source of medical grade air. A substantially tubular and rigid housing includes a first end, at least one aperture extending through the housing and positioned a predetermined distance from the first end; and a second end, opposite the first end. A valve extends from the first end of the housing for dispensing medical grade air to a patient. A medical grade air compressor provides medical grade air for output by the valve, the medical grade air compressor being positioned within the housing on a side of the at least one aperture opposite the valve. An air flow generator is positioned between the second end of the housing and the medical grade air compressor, the air flow generator draws air into the housing through the at least one aperture. The air passes over and around the medical grade air compressor to reduce a temperature of the medical grade air compressor and to the medical grade air compressor for generating medical grade air.

Abstract: An actuating device for an adjustable convertible top system of a motor vehicle includes at least two hydraulic drive cylinders. A first drive cylinder transmits an adjustment movement to a first gearing arrangement, and a second drive cylinder transmits the adjustment movement to a second gearing arrangement. The first drive cylinder and the second drive cylinder are connected hydraulically in series, such that an annular volume of the first drive cylinder is in fluid communication with a circular volume of the second drive cylinder via a connecting line. There is a difference between an annular area of the first drive cylinder forming the annular volume and a circular area of the second drive cylinder forming the circular volume. Intermediate gears having a different geometry and/or kinematics compensate for a speed difference between the two drive cylinders resulting from the difference.

Abstract: A refueling system for natural gas users (e.g., natural gas vehicles) includes a two-stage compression system that compresses low-pressure gas in a natural gas supply line to compressed natural gas (CNG) pressure for use by a user. A single motor drives both a first stage rotary compressor and a rotary hydraulic pump that powers a second-stage liquid piston compressor. The motor, first stage compressor, and pump may be co-axially aligned. Booster vessels store compressed gas to augment the system's compressed gas delivery flow rate when desired. The booster vessels may be recharged with compressed gas when the system is not delivering gas to a user. Hydraulic liquid may be pumped into and out of the booster vessels during booster vessel discharge and recharge, respectively, to maintain a desired pressure within the vessels.
