Abstract: A scroll compressor includes a housing, a fixed scroll, and a movable scroll. A compression chamber is formed between the movable scroll and the fixed scroll. An opposing wall is located in and fixed to the housing. A back pressure region is formed between the opposing wall and the movable scroll, and a back pressure in the back pressure region urges the movable scroll toward the fixed scroll. An annular sealing member is arranged between the movable scroll and the opposing wall. The movable scroll includes a holding portion that holds the sealing member. The sealing member includes a rubber portion, which elastically deforms in the holding portion, and a resin portion, which is made of a material harder than the rubber portion. The resin portion at least partially projects out of the holding portion toward the opposing wall. The resin portion is in contact with the opposing wall.

Swelling members are interposed between both side faces of the tip seal and corresponding opposite side faces of the wrap. Condensed liquid of working medium w and water condensed from steam contained in the working medium w that are present between the tip seal and an end plate provide a sealing effect. When the swelling members swell upon absorbing the condensed liquids, they exert a strong pressing force on the tip seal and the wrap, thereby firmly retaining the tip seal in position. This prevents the tip seal from being pressed against the end plate, so that wear of the tip seal is reduced.

Abstract: A scroll compressor having a first compressor body with a first base, a first rib that projects from the first base, and a discharge port. A second compressor body has a second base and a second rib projecting from the second base. The first and second ribs are mutually received in each other to define at least one compression chamber between an intake and discharge port. The relative movement between the first and second compressor bodies is adapted to compress fluid from the intake to the discharge port. The scroll compressor further includes a tip seal projecting axially from the second rib. The tip seal is adapted to engage the first base to seal the compression chamber. The discharge port includes an inward-facing radius, which enables the length of the tip seal in the vicinity of the discharge port to be greater than it would be without the inward-facing radius.

Abstract: A scroll assembly for use with a fluid machine, such as a wet/dry vacuum appliance, is described. Such scroll assembly may include a base portion, a cover portion configured to couple to the base portion, and a cavity between the base portion and the cover portion, wherein the cover portion and the base portion collectively form a labyrinth seal when coupled together, and wherein the labyrinth seal at least partially circumscribes the cavity. A vacuum appliance may include a scroll assembly coupled at least partially therein. A method of exhausting air from a vacuum appliance may include energizing a vacuum motor, thereby drawing air into the scroll assembly, allowing the air to contact a flow splitter, and allowing the air to exit the vacuum appliance.

  • Patent number: 8215933
Abstract: A scroll compressor and a refrigerating machine including the same are provided. In the scroll compressor, an oil supply hole formed in an orbiting scroll guides oil from a space between a frame and the orbiting scroll to a space between a fixed scroll and the orbiting scroll, and an oil supply groove formed at the fixed scroll maintains communication with the oil supply hole, thereby rapidly supplying oil to a bearing surface between the fixed scroll and the orbiting scroll before the oil is introduced into a back pressure chamber. This enhances compressor efficiency by effectively preventing frictional losses and refrigerant leakage in such a compressor, and enhances energy efficiency for a refrigerating machine using such a compressor.

Abstract: A compressor may include a shell, first and second scroll members, and a seal assembly. The shell defines a first and second pressure regions. The first scroll member may include a first end plate defining a chamber. The seal assembly may surround the discharge passage and fluidly separate the first and second pressure regions from each other. The seal assembly may include first and second sealing members. The first sealing member may prevent communication between the chamber and the second pressure region when a first fluid pressure within the second pressure region is higher than a second fluid pressure within the chamber. The first sealing member may define a leakage path when the first fluid pressure is lower than the second fluid pressure. The second sealing member may fluidly separate the chamber and the second pressure region when the first fluid pressure is lower than the second fluid pressure.
