The exhaust from the non-catalytic destruction matrix is passed through the catalytic oxidizer to maintain proper catalytic oxidizer operating temperatures. Supplemental fuel and air are added as appropriate upstream or downstream of the non-catalytic oxidizer to maintain proper heat values in each portion of the system.

    Abstract: A continuous flow analyzing method and an apparatus for carrying out the analyzing method wherein a sample is injected in a continuously flowing carrier and the sample is introduced into a detector by the carrier to thereby perform a quantitative analysis contained in the sample. In the method the sample to be analyzed is filled into a sample introduction switchover valve (SISV); a portion of the sample from the SISV is injected into the carrier and an analysis of this sample is conducted to obtain a detection peak for the analyzed sample. These steps are repeated and the sample is continuously analyzed by, in the case where a detection peak obtained in the detector is under an optimum analysis range, increasing an injection amount of the sample, and in the case where the detection peak obtained in the detector is over the optimum range, decreasing the injection amount of the sample. Adjustment of the detection peak is repeated until the detection peak reaches the optimum analysis range.

    Abstract: A control system for regulating the decontamination of waste in a reaction chamber is provided. The control system monitors the chamber temperature and disinfectant concentration. Using the disinfectant concentration, the control system then calculates the minimum temperature required to maintain a specified level of decontamination. This minimum temperature is then compared to the actual temperature by the control system. If the actual temperature is below the minimum, the control system operates a heater to heat the reaction chamber. Additional temperature control can also be provided by the control system. If desired, the control system compares the actual chamber temperature to an ideal operating temperature. If the actual temperature exceeds the ideal temperature, the system cools the chamber by pumping in additional low temperature disinfectant. In this manner, the additional disinfectant maintains the level of decontamination as the chamber temperature decreases.

    Abstract: The valve arrangement for a sterilization container having a pressure chamber with vent openings, includes two valve bodies arranged in the pressure chamber above the vent openings. The valve bodies are controlled by temperature sensors. The temperature sensors employ snap-discs which are disposed above each other in the valve bodies. The temperature sensors of each valve are adjusted to different upper and lower snap temperatures. At least one of the vent openings remains open, with both of the valves closing the vent openings only at a predetermined point during the venting phase of sterilization. A condensation discharge valve can be disposed at an outlet in the lowest point of the bottom of the container. The discharge valve includes a valve body which opens and closes the outlet. The valve body is normally in the open position and is controlled by a temperature sensor also in the form of a snap-disc. The container can include a condensate collection container disposed on the bottom thereof.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an injection noncatalyst denitrogen oxide process control system, in which a reducing agent (such as ammonia), carriers and additional gases are injected into the flue gas of a combustion device. The NO.sub.x in the flue gas will be reduced into nitrogen (N.sub.2) and water (H.sub.2 O). A pressure measurement device and a thermocouple device are installed in an injector for measuring the pressure difference and the temperature of the flue gas respectively, and then be converted into a voltage signal and a thermocouple signal respectively. Both of the signals will be transferred into a controller that is controlled by a computer. The controller can control the flow mass of the reducing agent, carriers and additional gases to the flue gas. Therefore, the reduction reaction of the NO.sub.x can be controlled, thereby maximizing the rate of denitrogen oxide (deNOx) and minimizing the discharge amount of the reducing agent.

    Abstract: A process and processing system are disclosed that provide for the processing of many forms of waste, such as medical and food waste, that both reduces the volume of waste solids and neutralizes the biological activity of such waste, thereby facilitating the disposal of potentially unhealthy or hazardous materials. Biological neutralization is accomplished by chopping the waste material and mixing it with a circulating stream of fluid such as water that is superheated to a temperature which effects disinfection or sterilization in accordance with the needs of the user. The superheated fluid is maintained substantially in a liquid form to facilitate intermixing with the waste material and absorption thereby in instances of the processing of fluid-absorbable materials. The processed waste can be filtered to remove solid particles having a size in excess of a predetermined amount, and the filtrate can be passed into municipal sewer systems.

    Abstract: A sheath is used to house a conventional pH sensor within the sheath's interior. The sheath is exposed to a descending spray within a sulfur dioxide (SO.sub.2) absorber. A fill port collects a portion of the spray and the sheath accumulates the collected spray as a slurry sample within its interior. The pH sensor becomes immersed in the sample slurry. Slurry is discharged from the interior by way of drain notches and drain holes. Discharged sample slurry descends to enter a bulk slurry to allow recycling. A steady state of slurry collection and slurry discharge is reached such that the sample slurry is continuously refreshed. Elevation of the sheath over the bulk slurry prevents slurry from the bulk from entering into the slurry sample.

A wash/alignment station is provided to facilitate flushing on the pipette between liquid deliveries. Combined within it is an alignment plate that checks the radial position of the pipette relative to the probe arm axis and the elevation of the pipette tip relative to the supporting instrument framework.

    Abstract: An automatic continuous multinominal analyzer comprises suction tubes to be inserted into vessels containing a reagent, each suction tube having a pair of electrode lines. The contacts of each pair of electrode lines are located above the suction port of the suction tube. Hence, the contacts are isolated from each other when the level of the reagent in a vessel is lower than the contacts, even if the reagent still remains in the vessel. If it is detected that the contacts in a vessel are isolated, this indicates that the vessel is almost empty. A display indicates a vessel which is almost empty on the basis of the result of the detection as to whether the contacts in the vessel are isolated. After a vessel is indicated on the display, the controller continues suction of the reagent and an analysis operation until the reagent in the indicated vessel is reduced to the minimum level which can be extracted through the suction tube.
