Condenser Patents (Class 422/531)
  • Patent number: 10376811
Abstract: A cold trap has multiple interior spaces formed within one unit such that a vacuum pump pulls only dry air and distillate substantially fully or fully condenses and drops out of the bottom of the device. Laminar flow through a side portal is converted into turbulent flow in a cooling region around a conical cold glass or other inert protrusion. The only other portal of the cooling region is a bottom portal such that though there is vacuum suction, vapors only exit through the bottom portal after condensing and falling through an outer section while dry air is pulled upwards to an upper vacuum portal.

  • Patent number: 10159907
Abstract: A laminar path distillation device receives gaseous and/or liquid condensate material from a condenser. The liquid material exits through a bottom-side portal while the gaseous material is further cooled by way of a chilled coil. Some, all, or substantially all of the gaseous material which enters the laminar path distillation device passes there-through in a laminar manner until exiting via an exit portal into an apparatus housing a cold trap. As such, the laminar path of the gas is pulled through via a vacuum and also, in embodiments of the disclosed technology, extends on a diagonal slant downwards through the laminar path distillation device or “cow”.

  • Patent number: 10029188
Abstract: A distillation unit multiple rejection areas at each of a top of a flask and a top of a lower distillation tube in embodiments. A middle distillation tube is narrower than the lower tube and extends into the lower distillation tube as well as a fraction collector. A distillation key with rings extends downwards through the fraction collector, middle distillation tube, and lower distillation tube, a portion of the distillation key and the lower distillation tube extending into a flask where product to be purified is placed. In this manner, the flask itself acts as a heat jacket in addition to having a heat jacket around all the afore-described parts.

  • Patent number: 9895626
Abstract: An equal temperature fractional distillation chamber allows for more precise distillation by providing solid particulate matter with air spaces, such as Raschig rings, to radiate heat from the bottom of the chamber to an area where the vapors are separated. This area is unencumbered by Raschig rings or other devices and can be reduced in size, as necessary, to be less than 20% or 10% of the vertical height of the chamber. Further, a distillation key can enter from the top of the chamber and come down into the chamber with rings which encourage condensation of vapors which rise upwards. In this manner, a very controlled and accurate distillation can be achieved due to the higher heat capacity of the glass or other materials around the unencumbered region.

  • Patent number: 8545767
Abstract: This passive one-way valve is used in a connection portion between first and second flow channels, and includes: an inlet portion into which a fluid from the first flow channel flows; an elastic portion for blocking the inlet portion; a rigid portion for supporting the elastic portion from a side opposite to the inlet portion across the elastic portion; a gap portion formed around the rigid portion; and an outlet portion which is in communication with the gap portion for letting the fluid flow out into the second flow channel. Furthermore, the inlet portion is hermetically sealed by the elastic portion being pressed against the inlet portion side by the rigid portion. According to this passive one-way valve, it is possible to provide a simple and inexpensive passive one-way valve without requiring special equipment such as a vacuum pump and pressurized air, and to provide a microfluidic device using the same.

  • Patent number: 8513026
Abstract: When an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) or inductively coupled plasma (ICP) is used, samples must be introduced in a liquid state. Thus, sample decomposition by acids must be performed. Methods for decomposing samples using beakers or microwaves have caused several problems such as loss of volatile elements, excessive use of acids, emission of harmful gases, limitation of sample capacity and amount, and inconvenience of cleaning up. However, the present invention can treat many samples with one acid injection through gas condensation by both heating of a reaction container and air cooling of a collection pipe, wherein the reaction container is made of fluororesin (Teflon) or quartz. Also, if there are many samples, the samples can be treated at once. Furthermore, since the present invention can treat the samples with a conventional heating plate, the invention can be used at inexpensive costs.

  • Patent number: 8182768
Abstract: A system for interfacing a sampling device and a chromatograph and for pre-concentrating analytes in a sample prior to introducing the sample into the chromatographic column is generally disclosed comprising an interface housing with a first channel and an adsorbent housing with a second channel, which contains at least one adsorbent. Valveless conduits permit fluid to be communicated between the sampling device and the first channel, between the first channel and the second channel, and the first channel and the column. In some embodiments, fluid flows in one direction when the analytes are adsorbed and in the opposite direction when analytes are desorbed. In certain embodiments, two different adsorbents are disposed in the second channel to adsorb different types of analytes.
