Abstract: The invention relates to a tooth coating composition comprising (A) a polymer having one or more carboxyl or carbonyloxycarbonyl groups in its molecule, a weight average molecular weight of 10,000 to 5,000,000, a solubility of 1 g or higher in 100 g of absolute ethanol at 20° C. and a solubility of 10 g or lower in 100 g of water at 20° C., and (B) water or an alcohol having 1 to 5 carbon atoms. When coating teeth with the composition, the coating is not easily peeled by eating and drinking, but can be easily removed if necessary.

Abstract: The present invention provides a composition and method for augmenting soft tissue, which composition includes a continuous phase that is a solid at temperatures less than about 10° C. or greater than about 30° C. and is a fluid at temperatures between about 10° C. and about 30° C., and which contains an aqueous solvent having dissolved therein a hydrogel and a dehydrating agent, and a discontinuous phase containing a plurality of hydrophilic hydrogel particles that are swellable in the aqueous solvent, that are not biodegradable for periods of time in excess of one year, and that have a hydrated diameter of greater than about 25 microns upon hydration by physiologic fluid; wherein the final volume of the hydrophilic hydrogel particles upon hydration by physiologic fluid is substantially the same as the initial volume of the composition used to augment the soft tissue.

Abstract: The invention discloses a mammalian teat dip for controlling mastitis, a method for preparing the composition and a method of treatment of mammals. The composition contains a film-forming polymer blend, at least one antimicrobial and a sodium bicarbonate buffering agent. The polymer blend contains a solvent-soluble, thermoplastic polyurethane and a hydrophilic poly(N-vinyl lactam). Upon application to mammalian skin, this composition leaves a long-lasting, water-resistant, residual, elastic film that treats and protects mammalian skin from infection.

Abstract: A composition for use as a post-foaming shaving gel, for example, comprising about 3% to about 20% by weight of the composition of a surfactant system, about 0.05% to about 10% by weight of the composition of poly(ethylene oxide) and polyvinylpyrrolidone, in a combined amount, wherein the poly(ethylene oxide) and the polyvinylpyrrolidone are present in a weight ratio of about 1:10 to about 10:1, and about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of the composition of a post-foaming agent.
Abstract: A process of making a cosmetically or pharmaceutically-acceptable emulsion or gel composition which comprises: (a) heating a reaction mixture comprising, by weight, about 5-70% of a vinyl monomer in about 30-95% of an oil as solvent, wherein said oil is selected from the group consisting of a silicone oil, a mineral oil and a water-insoluble organic ester and a free radical initiator, optionally in the presence of a crosslinking agent and/or an oil soluble surfactant, with agitation, under an inert gas, at about 40-150° C., wherein the oil is present in an amount sufficient to keep the resultant vinyl polymer in a stirrable state until the end of the polymerization, (b) adding a surfactant, if a suitable surfactant was not present during polymerization, and, (c) then adding water to form an oil-in-water, a water-in-oil or a water-in-oil-in-water emulsion or gel, in a volume ratio of oil-in-water of 30:70 to 10:90, or water-in-oil of 90:10 to 30:70.
