  • Patent number: 6634147
Abstract: In order to install or tension a brace (1) having a false bearing, for example a stay cable for a cable-stayed bridge, an external tensioning member or similar comprising a bundle of plastic-sheathed individual elements (2) made of steel, for example, wires, strands of wires or similar, the individual elements (2) are exposed in the area of the anchoring in order that they may be anchored at this point in holes (6) in an anchoring plate (7) which is supported by the building structure (9) by means of wedges (5). In order to ensure that when the strand is anchored the remaining plastic jacket (4) ends as close as possible to the anchoring plate (7), it is suggested that the plastic jacket be prevented from making any longitudinal movement during the extension of each individual element (2) which occurs during tensioning by a stop in the form of an annular shoulder (6d) which surrounds the element (2) in the anchoring area, and thereby compressed.

Abstract: An injection molding apparatus for manufacturing dental floss holders has at least one strand of dental floss from a supply spool extended through the space between mating mold pieces and thereafter to a take-up device. From each injection stage of the molding cycle a rack of connected dental floss holders is produced. Tension of the floss is maintained from the upstream supply spool by a first tensioning device through the mold to the downstream end by the take-up device. During each injection cycle the take-up device engages another rack of molded parts and moves it to a downstream position where it is severed from the strand of floss while it maintains the tension in the floss upstream of the severed rack. This is achieved by the take-up device engaging at least two successive racks downstream of the mold and using the rack closest to the mold to maintain tension.

  • Patent number: 5624628
Abstract: A method of introducing a casting compound composed of aggregates and a matrix with a hardening binder into a hollow space within a tubular sheathing of a tension member composed of one or more individual elements, particularly in the anchoring range of the tension member relative to a structural component. In accordance with the method, the aggregates are introduced first and the matrix is then introduced in the liquid state into the grain structure formed by the aggregates. A finely granular material is used as the aggregate. The finely granular material is introduced with the aid of compressed air through at least one tubular lance which is inserted in longitudinal direction of the tension member through the anchoring range.

  • Patent number: 5622733
Abstract: A process for forming composite hollow crown stiffened skins and panels in which a first layer or skin is placed on a forming surface of a female mold and, after forming a plurality of U-shaped stiffener elements in the first skin, a second skin is placed over the first skin, whereupon the resulting assembly is prepared for autoclave curing. The stiffener elements are formed by pressing the first skin into U-shaped depressions in the female mold surface and inserting a hollow, expandable rubber mandrel into each of the depressions on top of the first skin. Valve stems in the mandrels enable maintaining the pressure inside at atmospheric pressure. The mandrels are maintained in their "pressurized" state during subsequent formation and autoclave curing steps.

  • Patent number: 5618567
Abstract: A manufacturing device for multi-layer molded-products, which is provided with: a mold having a pair of upper and lower molds, one of which is a movable mold and the other is a fixed mold; and a movable member that presses a covering material against the molding surface of the upper or lower mold and that is capable of retreating out of the cavity of the mold. The device can be used in a manufacturing method for multi-layer molded-products which comprising the steps of supplying molten thermoplastic resin between the upper mold and the lower mold, and applying pressure to a forming cavity by clamping. With this method and device, it is possible to easily produce a multi-layer molded-product wherein the covering material, such as a woven fabric, is entangledly fused to and integrally formed on the surface of a base plate with at least one hole that is made of thermoplastic resin.

  • Patent number: 5618476
Abstract: Pre-stressed concrete railroad ties are manufactured by the slip form process in the absence of mold members, other than the slip form itself. Tie casting occurs on portable casting soffits between portable soffit anchored deadmen supporting the pre-stressed tie tensile members immediately overlying the casting soffit. Tie formation occurs with the slip form passing around and over the pre-stressed tension members. Track fastening hardware is vibrationally inserted through windows of the slip form to place the track fastening hardware to precise measured dimension along the route of slip form movement and to configure that portion of the tie adjacent the track fastening hardware. End of tie locations as well as tie batch identification are likewise marked during the slip form process. Upon cure, the ties are cut at their marked end location.

Abstract: A method of making a quartz dome for a reactor chamber from a substantially flat quartz disk. The quartz disk is placed on a graphite ring which is rotated. The quartz disk is heated until the disk is softened slightly and it begins to slump. The softened portion of the disk is drawn by a change in pressure to contact a fixed wiper blade. The wiper blade controls the size and shape of the deformation of the quartz disk to form the dome surface.

  • Patent number: 5536343
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for manufacturing a slide fastener chain having rows of coupling elements and members of a separable bottom end stop assembly, two positioning holes are formed at predetermined positions on reinforcing films attached to a pair of fastener tapes. The positioning holes are used to position the fastener tapes relative to a molding unit with respect to each individual slide fastener length. Thus, even when a positioning error is produced due to a change in tension on the fastener tapes being processed, such error is limited to a small extent which is created only in the individual slide fastener length. Thus, the coupling elements and the first pin member and the second pin member can be molded precisely.

Abstract: A method for the manufacture of pretensioned prestressed concrete sleepers wherein, the tensioning wires are taken directly from one or more rolls of wire and are introduced in a longitudinal feed into a tensioning frame, and the tensioning wires (5) are initially anchored at the end thereof located at the front in feed direction. The wires are tensioned by a tensioning device arranged outside of the tensioning frame and resting against the opposite end thereof, and the wires (5) are anchored at the tensioning device; only then are the wires severed by means of a severing device. In this manner, it is possible to combine in a single station the operating stages of cutting to length, introducing and tensioning the wires, which stages in the past were distributed over several manufacturing stations, so that the labor intensive and time consuming manipulation of wires which have been previously cut to length is eliminated.
