  • Patent number: 4368014
Abstract: A belt-fabrication apparatus for producing belts from layers of vulcanizable material and steel-wire reinforcement includes a coil frame from which the reinforcement wire may be withdrawn, passed through a wire clamp, covered with vulcanizable layers, subjected to pressing in a vulcanizing press, and engaged by a traction and/or clamp device downstream of the press as part of the belt, the latter being taken up on a coil. According to the invention, slack is prevented from forming (or is taken up) in the wire by providing each of the supply coils with a drive sprocket and a slip clutch between this sprocket and the reel, a plurality of such sprockets being engaged by a common chain driven by a motor tending to rotate the reels in senses opposite to the direction of rotation of the reels for paying out the wire.

  • Patent number: 4367014
Abstract: A polygonally shaped, multifaceted rotary scanner comprising a plurality of optically flat, reflective surfaces on the facets. The reflective surfaces are integrally bonded to a multifaceted, polygonal base at precise angles to the axis of rotation by a replication technique in which each optically flat reflective surface is produced on the surface of a flat master preform, and the flat master preform is then accurately located in position at the precise angle relative to the base by contact with upper and lower facets of a master multifaceted polygonal fixture. The flat reflective surface is then adhesively bonded to the corresponding facet of the polygonal base (while the polygonal base is arranged concentrically between the upper and lower facets of the fixture) by the application of a small quantity of a liquid adhesive to the surface of the facet of the polygonal base. On hardening, the adhesive bonds the reflective layer of each master preform to the appropriate facet of the polygonal base.

The jig holds the ends of the premeasured length of insert material in alignment as a heated mold, included therein, fits snugly around the ends and applies heat to the joint therebetween, into which the insert material, in liquid form, has been inserted to join the ends. The heat thus applied to the joint accelerates the curing of the liquid into the same consistency as the insert; thereby producing a unitized bond between the ends by which the unitized loop is thus formed.
