Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus for the production of foam cushions having textile covers by inserting a textile cover into a mold cavity having gates which project into the mold cavity, initially preforming the textile cover by applying a vacuum through holes in the mold cavity such that the textile cover conforms to the contour on both sides of the gates, clamping the textile cover against the gates, further positioning the textile cover such that it conforms to the contours of both the gates and the mold cavity, releasing the clamps and introducing a foam-forming reaction mixture into the mold cavity. The present invention is also directed to a form tool having gates, means for applying a vacuum through holes in the mold cavity in gates and clamping means for clamping the mold cover to the gates.

  • Patent number: 4804322
Abstract: The invention relates to a deep-drawing machine for manufacturing containers out of thermoplastic foil by means of a cutting device which includes a banderole arrangement for manufacturing banderoles, labels or the like and includes inserting such into hollow molds of a forming arrangement. For the purpose of simultaneously inserting a large number of banderoles, labels or the like into the hollow molds and for the additional purpose of an easy access to the banderole arrangement and the forming arrangement, and for the purpose of independently driving these two arrangements, the banderole arrangement together with the cutting device is constructed separately from the forming arrangement and there is provided a transfer arrangement between the forming arrangement and the banderole arrangement in the form of a rotatable dish whose axis of rotation is essentially parallel to the longitudinal axes of the hollow molds.

  • Patent number: 4793784
Abstract: The apparatus includes a first female mold member defining a shaped mold cavity for receiving a plastisol layer or skin. A second mold member is pivotally disposed on the female mold member between an open and closed position. In the open position, the second mold member receives and holds thereon a portion of the plastisol skin extending from the mold cavity. An insert is positioned in the mold cavity by a third mold member such as a mold lid on which the insert is releasably retained. After the insert is positioned in the mold cavity, the second mold member is pivoted toward the mold lid to fold the skin portion thereon over and against an edge of the insert. The skin is folded adjacent the pivot axis of the second mold member. Foam can then be introduced and cured between the skin and insert.

  • Patent number: 4786027
Abstract: Apparatus for molding a composite metal-elastomer styled wheel in which a middle mold part consists of a metal wheel disc and rim subassembly. A base mold part seats against the outboard face of the metal wheel in the closed condition of the mold and has a mold cavity surface to provide an ornamental configuration for the outboard face of the plastic body of the composite wheel. A clamp seats against the inboard face of the middle mold part to urge the middle part into sealing engagement with the base mold part. The mold parts are axially separable from one another to open the molding apparatus to clear the middle mold part from said clamp and base mold parts. The clamp includes a funnel adapted for registry with a liquid reaction mixture injection nozzle coupled with injecting mixing apparatus. The funnel has a nozzle passage registering with a pour opening in the disc in the closed condition of the mold.

  • Patent number: 4781009
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an elongated, box-like structural component comprising two mutually opposing side-members (1, 2) which define a cavity therebetween. The mutually opposing surfaces of the side-members present longitudinally extending grooves into which projections on distance pieces (3) located between the members engage. In the process of manufacturing the structural component pairs of boards or the like are advanced in spaced relationship in the longitudinal direction of the boards into a receiving station (7) with the grooved inner surfaces of the boards facing one another, the distance pieces (3) being placing between the boards as they enter the station (7). As the boards leave the station, they are pressed towards one another in a manner to bring the projections on the distance pieces (3) into engagement with the grooves on the inwardly facing surfaces of the boards.

Abstract: A composite molded article and a method of fabricating such an article is disclosed, which is especially well-suited for forming one-piece interior vehicle panels, by way of a single molding operation, wherein the one-piece interior panel can be easily installed as a unit within the vehicle. In the fabrication of the one-piece molded composite article, a deformable sheet material, such as vinyl, is positioned on a female molding surface and drawn into conformity with the female molding surface of the mold cavity, either with or without preheating or vacuum forming. The mold apparatus is closed and a first moldable material is introduced into the mold assembly, with certain predetermined portions thereof being blocked off. Subsequently, a second moldable material is introduced at least into the predetermined areas previously blocked off during the introduction of the first moldable material.
