A box which contains plastic material can be fitted on to the mold. The mold and the box are jointly pivotable so that the plastic material can pass into the mold and fuse at the wall of the mold. At its rear wall, which is remote from the internal contour which produces the molding action, the double-walled hollow body has a multiplicity of intake and discharge openings for the heating and cooling medium so that heating and cooling can be effected specifically and quickly. The total discharge cross-section is greater than the total feed cross-section whereby the hollow body remains substantially pressure-less.

  • Patent number: 5139402
Abstract: The invention relates to a calibrating device for extruded plastics sections, having a number of calibrating units 5 to 7 disposed successively in the drawing-off direction. The calibrating units 5 to 7 are mounted on a guide 1, 2 floatably in the plane normal of the drawing-off direction and disposed on the guide 1, 2, securably in the drawing-off direction. A calibrating device of the kind specified ensures that the precise positioning of the successively disposed calibrating units 5 to 7 is superfluous. Since therefore the section passes the individual calibrating units without lateral deflection or jamming, the individual calibrating unit can be designed with close dimensional tolerances, utilizing the loadability of the section, without introducing an excessive shrinkage into the section.

Abstract: This relates to a blow molding machine of the type for blow molding large articles such as containers of the one gallon to five gallon size from a parison in the form of an extruded plastic material tube. The machine is of the rotary type and has a plurality of stations each carrying a mold unit of which one half is fixed and the other is mounted for radial movement between open and closed positions. The main shaft of the machine is of a large diameter and is tubular so that the necessary manifolding for gas and coolant supplies may be readily incorporated in the main shaft in an entirely different manner from that heretofore utilized. Also, among other features of the machine, is the provision of hollow spokes which serve not only to support outer mold halves for radial movement, but also serve as manifold accumulators for the necssary operating gases.

  • Patent number: 4626190
Abstract: Blow molding apparatus wherein halves of a split mold are carried by mold carriers. The mold carriers normally include one fixed mold carrier and one movable mold carrier which is positioned by way of a cam follower and associated cams. When the mold closes, the mold carriers come into closed relation with respect to one another. The mold carriers are provided with locking flanges which are engaged by C-shaped retaining members so as to prevent the material separation of the mold carriers. Then a pressure pack within the mold carriers is expanded so as to clamp the mold halves together. A simplified linkage is provided for, in conjunction with a cam follower and cams, to move the retaining members between retaining positions and release positions. The cams are mounted for adjustment normal to the direction of movement of the mold carriers and may be adjusted in that normal position to compensate for adjusted positions of the mold carriers in accordance with different size molds.

Abstract: A flowable substance is extruded from two coaxial telescoping cylindrical containers of which the outer is provided with openings on its periphery and is rotatable about the inner container. The substance is fed to the inner container and exits via a row of openings therein. As the outer container rotates, the inner and outer openings radially coincide cyclically whereby the substance falls in the form of drops onto a belt and solidifies. The row of openings of the inner container is provided in a nozzle bar which is removably attached to the periphery of a body part of the inner container.

  • Patent number: 4605368
Abstract: This relates to a blow molding apparatus of the rotary wheel type and particularly relates to supplying fluids, such as air, vacuum and water to a mold half and its associated carrier in a manner which permits the reciprocation of the mold half and associated carrier between a mold open position and a mold closed position. This is facilitated by the use of short lengths of hose which are attached to respective manifolds by swivels. The swivels permit the ends of the hose to change their angular relationship as one end of each hose moves relative to an opposite end of the hose. Adjacent ones of the hoses are located in adjacent parallel planes and are initially bowed in one direction and reverse their direction of bow as movable ends of the hoses move beyond fixed ends of the hoses. The carrier for the movable mold half has associated therewith a cam follower for engaging a cam which effects the opening and closing of the mold.

Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for making sheet-plastic articles, such as lids for disposable drinking cups, by vacuum forming. The invention provides spacers that fit into the holes in the stripper plate of the apparatus for the purpose of matching the size of the hole closely to that of the die impression. The spacers are flanged and in three segments, the segments being so arranged that two of the segments can be first placed in the hole, their flanges being entered into a groove in the hole, then the third is located in the hole and maneuvered radially outwards until its flange too is located in the groove. The segments are retained in place with a spring ring. The segmented spacers can easily be inserted at arm's length and by feel alone. The spacers are themselves radially thin so that the holes in the stripper plate can be packed tightly together.
