  • Patent number: 4880581
Abstract: An apparatus and method for aseptic, particle-free production of articles. A shroud is placed around at least a portion of the device which produces the articles to substantially isolate that portion from the external environment. The device for producing the articles and the shroud are sterilized and the air inside the shroud is filtered and sterilized. A laminar or other type of flow of filtered, sterilized air is imparted through the shroud over the articles being produced. A secondary shroud encloses the corridor or work area adjacent the shroud and device which produces the articles. The corridor and secondary shroud are sterilized, and sterilized and filtered air is continually introduced therein. The articles therefore are particle-free and sterilized for further use. The apparatus and method can be used for any component production process employing high temperatures and/or pressures, including, but not limited to, blow molding, injection molding, and production of semiconductor electronic components.

Abstract: A pelletizing apparatus is provided with a first passage through which a strand of liquified plastic is fed to a die face. A second passage intersects the first at a point closely spaced from the die face and conducts a stream of pressurized fluid. The end of the strand of plastic forms a plug blocking continued passage of the polymer. Build-up of pressure of the fluid overcomes the blocking force of the plug, cutting the strand at the intersection and ejecting the plug as a pellet. Release of the fluid pressure permits the plastic strand to advance and block the exit whereupon the fluid pressure builds up to again eject the plug. Repeated self-regulating cycles cause a stream of pellets to be formed.

Abstract: A pair of endless belts define a downwardly extending path therebetween which progressively reduces in width from the top to the bottom, so that a material of a foodstuff is compressed while being fed downwardly by the belts through the path. A horizontal conveyor belt lies below the path and is indexed to transfer a predetermined cut length of the material to a shaping station where the material is pushed up into a shaped cavity of a flexible cup member. The flexible cup member is embraced by presser members to shape the material under a preselected adjustable pressure. The resulting block of material attains hardness and shape which would be provided by hand-shaping. Regardless of the hardness of the material in the downward path between the belts, the material can always be cut by each predetermined amount by adjusting the width of the path and, therefore, the degree of compression of the material.

  • Patent number: 4337020
Abstract: A plurality of moulds each including a side frame and a hollow bed overlying the side frame are vertically stacked with sealing members interposed between the beds and the side frames for hermetically sealing the moulds. While the pressure in the moulds is being reduced a hydraulic substance such as cement is poured into the moulds. The poured hydraulic substance is heat cured to produce solid articles releasable from the moulds. An empty mould is added to one side of the stack while a mould containing the cured substance is removed from the other side of the stack. Alternatively, the process can be carried out according to a batch system. The moulds may be packed with aggregate, fittings or means for interconnecting the articles.

  • Patent number: 4243617
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a novel process and apparatus for the production of rebonded foam, and particularly polyurethane foam scrap. The process and apparatus allow for the simultaneous performance of three and preferably four basic operations, i.e. mold filling, curing or steaming, boring and mold stripping, to achieve the shortest, most efficient time cycles to produce a high quality rebonded product. Significant improvements are seen in the quality of the product, reduction in density, reduction in scrap loss, elimination of density variations in the molded product and overall product consistency.

  • Patent number: 4160637
Abstract: A spinneret pack comprising a filtration assembly and an outer ring surrounding the spinneret plate, when it is clogged with unprocessed plastic material, is preheated by induction heating to separate the outer ring by slight pressure in a first processing step, then a second induction heating treatment separates the spinneret plate from the attached filtration assembly. The spinneret plate, detached by gravity, has matter in the die holes carbonized by the second induction heating process, thereby simplifying a final cleaning process which will make the spinneret plate reusable in the synthetic fiber manufacturing process.

  • Patent number: 4144012
Abstract: Relates to plastic material molding machines and to a unitary assembly of parts installable between the hopper and the plastic pellet material inlet opening of the molding machine for providing bodily translatable movement of the hopper to one side of the machine where the remaining contents of the hopper may be discharged into a drainage collector for possible re-use at a later time. The translatable movement of the hopper is usually performed when the hopper content is to be changed and is carried out by moving or sliding the hopper while in upright position along a track extending laterally of the machine. The track occupies the upper position of a gas-tight conduit, preferably rectangular in cross section, which serves to deliver a gaseous medium to the contents of the hopper, such as hot dry air for the purpose of removing moisture from the plastic pellets in the hopper.

  • Patent number: 4140238
Abstract: A nozzle shut-off valve for injection molding machine for plastic material, especially thermoplastic material, has two pneumatic cylinder-and-plunger units. One such unit has its plunger mounted to reciprocate so as to block the passageway of the plastics through the nozzle. The first such plunger and cylinder unit is provided with a pilot passage in the valve nozzle so that the pressure of molten plastic can be used to open it. The second such unit is much smaller diameter and has its plunger mounted to block the pilot passage so that the second unit in effect becomes a pilot valve and controls the application of fluid pressure through the pilot passage to the first unit plunger or blocking plunger.

  • Patent number: 4054481
Abstract: For assemblying a plurality of extruded aluminum strakes with their edges formed for interconnection by plastic key joints, thereby to form a side wall for a transit vehicle, a panel support is formed to support a required plurality of the strakes in completed conformation. Clamping mechanism then squeezes the strakes laterally to a designed assembled width, thereby interlocking the joints, and opening up a key-forming passage lengthwise within each joint. An adhesive injecting manifold is mounted for reciprocation toward and away from one end of a panel on the support, with a nozzle on each of a plurality of outlets of the manifold for sealed engagement, one with each panel joint passage. The manifold inlet has controlled connection to a supply of pressurized, flowable, hardenable, key-forming compound for injection into the joint passages, with flushing means arranged for alternate connection to the nozzles for flushing out the nozzles and manifold after use.
