  • Patent number: 5049058
Abstract: A rollout apparatus for rolling trapped air from a resin impregnated fiber mat has two carriage assemblies mounted for reciprocated movement in opposite direction. Each of the carriage assemblies carries depending rollers that engage an impregnated fiberglass mat laid on a mold. The carriage assemblies oscillate simultaneously in opposite directions so that the turning forces generated by the receiprocation cancel each other, thus providing a smooth vibration-free mechanism.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming a strip of elastomeric material which is extruded onto a rotating roller where it is initially shaped by a die plate and then finally shaped by a calender roll positioned downstream from the die plate and in close proximity to the surface of the roller providing a finishing gap for finally shaping the strip of elastomeric material. The calender roll may be positioned on the opposite side of the roller from the position the elastomeric material is extruded onto the roller whereby the calender roll resists forces tending to bend the roller. The extruder screw may have a downstream end adjacent the roller for reducing the pressure and for self-cleaning the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4963309
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for processing elastomeric material in particular plastic, rubber and a mixture thereof in roller-head-apparatus in which the material to be processed is plasticized and homogenized in an extruder, extruded from an extrusion head provided on the extruder and then is led through an aperture formed between two rollers. It is the object of the present invention, with an especially simple extrusion head in a roller-head-apparatus to produce uniform and dimensionally exact sheets or foils of different thicknesses without changing structural parts. The invention achieves this in that material formed in plate form by parallel outlet surfaces of the extruder head is led through an aperture space formed between a concave cylindrical surface of a stationary forming tool and the circumferential surface of one of the rollers of the calender before the material enters the space between the two calender rollers.

  • Patent number: 4808104
Abstract: An illustrative embodiment of the invention comprises an annular device for preparing pie crusts in which the inner margin of the device defines the central, circular opening. The margin, perpendicular to the base of the device, also forms a cutting edge that slopes away from the opening and toward the base until it intersects a flat working surface for the device. An arcuate surface, curving from the working surface to the base enables the device to be positioned on a breadboard with the cutting edge oriented in the proper direction. By rolling dough deposited in the opening, the opening fills up to the margin and surplus dough flows over the cutting edge and onto the working surface, the cutting edge severing the surplus dough from the shaped mass in the opening. The device, with surplus dough, is lifted smartly away from the breadboard, leaving a circular pie crust of uniform thickness defined by the marginal distance between the base and the crest of the cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4266923
Abstract: This invention is the means of support for rollers on a roller type press. This means of support is the configuration of four cables, straps or other suitable material under tension in relation to two rollers and a bed. Rotation is applied to either roller, the cables transfer the rotation to the opposing roller, supply the pressure between the rollers and guide the rollers as a set across the bed. The press can take many forms to provide an economical device, capable of many of the less demanding applications.

  • Patent number: 4205951
Abstract: Apparatus for shaping strands of material used in confectionery production with a pair of rollers forming the bottom of a hopper for delivering material. The rollers are formed of smooth surfaces between which a gap has been left. In the gap a strand formation device adapting to the surface of the two rollers, has been inserted. The device is formed from a comb-like insert which, with its lateral boundary surfaces, conforms to the cylindrical surfaces of the two rollers. In the surface facing the intake roller there are grooves or passages 10 which run in the peripheral direction of the rollers and shape the composition into strands.

  • Patent number: 4194841
Abstract: Method and apparatus for processing solid and viscous plastic material or polymeric material and the like in which plastic or polymeric material is fed through an inlet into an enclosed passage of which opposed side walls are moving simultaneously toward an outlet and the material is processed and dragged forward by the moving side wall against a channel block and with progressive build up of pressure along said passage for discharging the processed material through the outlet from the enclosed passage. Rotary apparatus for practicing the method includes one or more annular channels having opposed side walls and carried by a drive rotor member for movement relative to a housing of which an annular surface coaxial with the rotor cooperates with the walls of the channel or channels to form an enclosed annular passage or enclosed annular passages.

  • Patent number: 4110152
Abstract: An embossing roller has protruding lands extending radially outward from the surface of the roller to provide corresponding indentations in a thermoplastic surface to which the roller may be applied. A layer of resilient material underlies the lands so that when the roller is rolled over an irregular surface, individual lands, or groups of lands, may be depressed different amounts so that embossing indentations are formed in all portions of the surface. By applying adequate pressure to the roller, all of the lands are depressed at their points of contact when in contact with the surface if the surface is flat and regular. The lands are forced by action of the resilient material into contact with the bottom of any slight concavity in the surface and adapt to any slight convexity. In some embodiments, lands protrude outwardly from metal rings which encircle the roller. In other embodiments, lands are supported directly by the resilient material.

Abstract: Apparatus for treating lengthwise traveling material has a material driving member provided with alternating grooves and lands extending parallel to the direction of drive of the material, presser means to press the material against the lands, and a retarder member downstream of the presser member for deflecting the material away from the driving member, the retarder member having an edge portion extending across the path of travel of the material provided with teeth extending into the driving member grooves with clearance from the groove walls, and intervening slots receiving therethrough the lands of the driving member with clearance from the slot walls. The construction avoids snagging of the material by, or diving of the material under, the retarding member, and wear of the retarder member.
