Abstract: Molds and processes that permit high-speed, mass production of retaining wall blocks having patterned or other processed front faces, as well as retaining wall blocks formed by such processes. The invention permits the front face of the block to be impressed with a pattern or otherwise directly processed, to allow the formation of pre-determined block front faces, while at the same time facilitating high-speed, high-volume production of blocks. A mirror image of the desired pattern can be created on a stripper shoe by selecting a desired three-dimensional surface from a naturally occurring or man made object and digitally scanning the selected three-dimensional pattern to create scanned data. The scanned data can then be used to machine a face of the stripper shoe that is the mirror image of the selected pattern.

Abstract: A dispensing mechanism that deploys a roll of web material having slit cuts and expands it into a web with a cellular structure. This is accomplished by mounting the roll of unexpanded web material on an axle that is positioned at a first angle to a guide wheel assembly. That first angle is not perpendicular to the direction of deployment. The material moves through the guide wheel assembly longitudinally in such a way that tension is applied at a second angle to the direction of deployment. This diagonal tension causes the web material to expand and form cells. Single axle as well as multi-axle systems are disclosed. In this way, a plurality of rolls of web material may be deployed and expanded as a single unit.

Abstract: A compact deformation-based micro-texturing apparatus and method employ flexure bearing houses for rotatably supporting opposite ends of each of a first (e.g. upper) roll and a second (e.g. lower) roll to provide a working roll gap between the rolls, wherein at least one of the rolls has one or more micro surface features to plastically deform a surface of a workpiece deformed by rolling action in the roll gap. An electrical current may be passed through the workpiece to assist micro deformation. A roll gap adjusting device is operably associated with the first and second flexure bearing houses for adjusting the roll gap dimension to the final depth of the micro surface features to be imparted to the surface of the workpiece by the rolling action.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of a food press that utilizes mechanical devices, such as lever arms, inclined planes, cams, and/or rollers to increase the force applied to food by a ratio of two to one or more in comparison to the force applied by a human operator to the device. High compression forces are particularly important when working with low fat foods such as low-fat hamburger, game meat, flaked or ground fish or ground vegetable products. The various embodiment of food presses described and disclosed herein may also be used to produce stuffed food products.

Abstract: A method is provided for fabricating a surface protection film that has no rolling defects such as blocking or wrinkling when rolled into a roll, and that, after the film is bonded to an adherend, is rolled into a roll, and stored for long periods of time, does not transfer unevenness or fisheyes on the back surface to the adherend. The surface protection film is fabricated as an elastomer by setting the arithmetical mean roughness (Ra) of the surface of a cold roller (4) to no more than 0.2 ?m, and the ten point mean roughness (Rz) of the surface of a nip roller (3) to 2-8 ?m and the mean distance (Sm) between protrusions and depressions thereof to no more than 90 ?m.
