Patent number: 7524177Abstract: A pipe mold (1) produces plastic pipe with an internal wall having a first wall portion (23, 25) and a second wall portion (27). The pipe mold (1) includes a two stage cooling plug (35) to assist in setting the pipe wall. The first cooling stage (37) is controlled to remove heat from the pipe wall to partially set the plastic without excessive cooling. The partially set plastic pipe then passes over a second stage (39) where less precision in the cooling of the pipe occurs. The partially set plastic is more tolerant and subject to less damage. Preferably both the first and second stages (37, 39) include separate temperature sensors (120, 122) and control arrangements (124, 126) for varying the cooling medium of each stage. In a preferred embodiment a cooling medium is circulated through a first stage at a temperature and at a flow rate to maintain the first stage (37) within a narrow temperature range about the temperature of the cooling medium.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2004Date of Patent: April 28, 2009Inventors: Manfred A. Patent number: 6908583Abstract: A method and apparatus for bending a substantially rigid substrate (22) having first and second portions (28, 30) interconnected by a bend region (32). The apparatus comprises first and second heated die members (60, 80). The first heated die member (60) has a longitudinal body portion (62) and an outer edge portion (64) that extends along the longitudinal body portion (62) and is substantially rounded. The second heated die member (80) has a longitudinal body portion (82) and a groove (84) that extends along the longitudinal body portion (82). The first and second heated die members (60, 80) are configured to contact the substrate (22) and are capable of bending the substrate (22) in the bend region (32) when the outer edge portion (64) of the first heated die member (60) slides into the groove (84) of the second heated die member (80). There is also a method for bending the substantially rigid substrate (22).Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2003Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: David Fiedler, David W. Publication number: 20040251579Abstract: A method for producing bottle-type containers made of a synthetic resin, e.g., polyethylene-terephthalate resin, includes a heat treatment step for heating and crystallizing a neck portion of a perform corresponding to a neck portion of a container. In a first stage of the heat treatment step, the neck portion of the perform is temporarily heated to a temperature below a melting point of the synthetic resin, e.g., approximately 200° C. to 230° C. in the case of polyethylene terephthalate resin. In a subsequent second stage, the neck portion is maintained at a temperature within a range in which crystallization of the synthetic resin is promoted, e.g. approximately 170° C. to 195° C. in the case of polyethylene terephthalate resin.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2004Publication date: December 16, 2004Inventors: Koji Yamanaka, Yoshihiro Iimura, Daisuke Uesugi

Patent number: 6800236Abstract: A molding method for a seamless crawler is provided in which the number of production steps is few, embedding of spiral reinforcement cords and a circumferentially uniform strength property are made possible, high-speed traveling can be accommodated, and a uniform, reliable pressure for an outer mold is enabled. The crawler molding method is structured such that a crawler 10 is integrally molded and vulcanized between an endless ring-shaped outer mold 12 and an inner mold 22. After structural components of the crawler 10 are molded at an outer periphery of the inner mold 22 which is dividable in an axial direction, the outer mold 12 which is divided in a circumferential direction and is slidable in a radial direction is disposed at an outer side an the structural components of the crawler 10. The outer mold 12 is contracted in the radial direction by pressure applied thereto. Accordingly, the structural components of the crawler 10 are vulcanized.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2000Date of Patent: October 5, 2004Assignee: Bridgestone CorporationInventors: Tomoyuki Kurata, Yoichi Kumano

Publication number: 20040169321Abstract: A spacer 44 is inserted between an upper end face 44a of a contact column 40, and a lower face of a flange 14. The flange 14 is supported at plural positions by supporting columns 42. In heating a shoulder portion 16 to a hardening temperature, an electroconductive member 56 is placed close to the shoulder portion 16, and an AC current having a frequency which will cause mutual attraction between the current flowing through the elctroconductive member 56 and the current flowing through the shoulder portion 16 is applied to flow through the electroconductive member 56. The shoulder portion 16 having been heated to the hardening temperature is quenched by ejecting a liquid coolant through ejection outlets of a cooling jacket.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2004Publication date: September 2, 2004Inventors: Yoshimasa Tanaka, Katsumi Ohmiya, Yoshiki Seto, Yoichi Mori
