Coacting Shaping Surfaces (e.g., Pressure Surfaces, Etc.) Patents (Class 425/394)
  • Publication number: 20130207292
Abstract: A fiber filling box divided into compartments by slotted divider walls, preferably comb-like divider fences with vertical tines extending downwardly from a top frame, is lowered onto an air-permeable conveyor over at least one vacuum box in a fiber filling station. A multi-axis controlled nozzle blows fiber material to different depths and/or densities in the individual compartments. The divider fences allow continuous intertwining of fibers between adjacent compartments, but sufficiently contain the fibers to maintain well-defined boundaries between different fiber depths and/or densities in the individual compartments. Hold-down plates are lowered onto the fiber material, the fiber filling box is lifted away, and then the hold-down plates are lifted to release a shaped fiber mass, which is then heated and compacted in a heating station to form a fiber preform. The hot fiber preform is then molded, compressed and cooled in a molding station to produce a molded fiber component.

Abstract: A bead-forming apparatus and method for its use are described. The bead-forming apparatus includes a base with a pair of legs extending from a top surface. First ends of the legs couple to respective eccentric elements. The eccentric elements removeably and rotatably couple to a platen. Second ends of the legs are rotatably and slideably mated with a gear train disposed within the base. The legs are slideably translatable into the base and the gear train maintains a rotational orientation of the legs and the eccentric elements coupled thereto. The platen is thus moveable through a circular path defined by the rotation of the eccentric elements and legs. As such, a plug of moldable material placed between the base and the platen and in contact with the platen, is formed into a double-cone shape by movement of the platen through the circular path.

Abstract: A device for creating a three-dimensional molded part (30) made from fiber material using of a multiple-part mold (1, 2) whose inside (1a, 2a) determines, at least partially, the contours of the molded part. The fibers are blown into the mold by an air flow using a plurality of nozzles (4) and the air flow then escapes through openings of the mold, so that the fibers accumulate on the inside of the mold, whereupon the fibers are optionally compressed locally before they are bonded with each other through the supply of heat and are finally taken from the mold (1, 2) as a molded part (30). The blowing direction of the nozzles (4, 24, 34) can be pivoted and the pivot axes extend close to the outside of the molded part and the fibers are blown in by the nozzles (4, 24, 34) that are activated at different times.

  • Publication number: 20110024032
Abstract: The present invention relates to a manufacturing tool (13, 14) and method for use in forming polymer matrix composite products such as carbon fibre composite products. The tool comprising a first and a second portion defining a cavity (15) therebetween in which the product is built before curing. The rigidity of the second portion (13) of the tool is selected based on the required deflection of the second portion of the tool under the curing conditions, in order to maintain pressure on the laminate during the entire cure. The second upper portion (13) is shown haring varying thicknesses (16A, 16B and 16C) which results in different rigidity of these regions.

  • Patent number: 7874832
Abstract: An assembly for creating a folded edge for a flexible headliner material. A table defines an outer configured perimeter upon which is supported the headliner with or without a supporting template. Pairs of primary and secondary fingers are arranged at perimeter spaced locations in mounted fashion over the outer configured perimeter. The fingers contact outwardly displaceable fashion relative to the headliner inner perimeter, and such that the fingers are cooperatively displaced in a first step imparting a bent edge to the headliner. A projecting edge of the secondary finger is subsequently displaced over a terminating edge of the first finger in order to fold over the bent edge, or against the template, to form the edge profile to the headliner in a non-pleated fashion.

  • Patent number: 7845932
Abstract: A molding apparatus can include a primary mold, a stripper, and a swinging member. The swinging member can comprise a molding surface defining an undercut portion of a molded item. The swinging member can directly contact or attached to the stripper and the primary mold. To facilitate removal of a molded item, the swinging member can withdraw through a hole in the primary mold as a direct result of a motion of the stripper to pull the molded item off the primary mold. The molded item can then be easily removed.

  • Patent number: 7819999
Abstract: A method and a device for directly molding a glazing gasket by extruding a molding material from a molding die to a peripheral edge part of a double-glazing panel in which a space layer is formed between two adjacent glass sheets with a spacer interposed in between. The molding die is configured of a front die and a rear die, which are independent of each other. The front die is allowed to adhere closely to at least the front surface of the double-glazing panel, and the rear die is allowed to adhere closely to at least the rear surface of the double-glazing panel, thereby molding the glazing gasket.

  • Patent number: 7726962
Abstract: An apparatus and method for molding composite material with a selectable uniform predetermined temperature during most of the curing time. The mold apparatus has two cooperating and complementing mold bed assemblies hingedly mounted to each other and movable between two extreme positions, open and closed. A composite inner skin and outer skins sandwich a spacer in between. The spacer member includes interconnecting passages throughout. An outer perforated composite skin member covers the spacer member. A source for pressurized gas is applied to the mold assemblies when in the closed position. A predetermined cooperative temperature is selectably used to uniformly control the curing characteristics of the first and second skin members as the pressurized hot gas or air forced to pass through the outer skin and the spacer member adjacent to the inner skin thereby exposing the form being molded to a uniform temperature gradient.
