  • Publication number: 20030175378
Abstract: The invention of this patent is a method and apparatus used in molding applications. An external applied force causes an actuator rod to move in a linear motion. In turn, a rotary linkage rotates about its pivot point. This causes a series of linkage connectors to cause linkage arms to rotate around such linkage arms' pivot point. This rotary action causes platens to move simultaneously together to form a clean, even mold. While the platens move linearly on tie bars, which guide such linear movement, the linkage arms and rotary linkage are mounted on a mounting plate. This allows the clamping and applied force stresses on the platens to be dependent on the mounting plate, rather than the tie bars. The platens travel at the same speed and distance in relation to each other. The result is an evenly produced part that comprises two die or mold halves which are perfectly centered.

The housing can accordingly move backward as the ball-screw assembly is further rotatably driven, compressing the coil springs and generating and maintaining the clamping force. • Patent number: 6409495
Abstract: A mold protection device for an injection molding machine capable of automatically setting a reference value for detecting an abnormal load exerted on a mold in a mold closing process. A load exerted on a servomotor for driving a mold clamping mechanism is estimated by a disturbance estimating observer provided in a control system of the servomotor. The estimated disturbance torque is sampled at every predetermined period in a mold protection region and cyclically stored in a table TA as data DA (0, 0) to (i, j) in mold closing processes of the number (i+1). A predetermined amount is added to an average value of data DA (0, n) to (i, n) to define an upper limit DC(n) for the disturbance torque and stored in the table TC. If the estimated disturbance torque at each sampling period exceeds the upper limit DC(n) of in the mold protection region in a present mold closing process, an alarm is issued to indicate abnormal load.

Abstract: The technical field of the invention broadly relates to molding systems, and more particularly to a flexible shoe assembly for use in a molding system. The clamp unit of a molding system includes a moving platen and a stationary platen supported by a frame. Tie bars interconnect the moving platen with the stationary platen. The tie bars are secured to the stationary platen and pass through respective openings in the moving platen. Each tie bar is supported and guided within their respective openings by a flexible shoe assembly and wear pad. The flexible shoe assembly has a force redirector for directing force away from a peripheral edge of the wear pad towards a central force area. The flexible shoe assembly also includes a load distributor to distribute the load across the wear pad surface. The flexible shoe assembly includes an upper support that is flexible about a lower support to keep the wear pad in operational contact with the tie bar.

Abstract: A lollipop comprises a ball of hard candy and an edible stick having a first end extending into a cavity in the ball. The stick comprises pressed candy and a multiplicity of confectionary chips interspersed in the pressed candy. The stick is preferably received into a plastic sleeve to provide a lollipop assembly in which the stick is protected from direct contact while the candy ball is being eaten. In the manufacture of the lollipop, a plurality of book molds are positioned in a line and linked together for simultaneous opening and closing. A plurality of nozzles inject hot syrup into the molds. When the syrup has cooled and the sticks have been anchored therein, the molds are inverted and opened to allow the lollipops to drop out. The manufacture operation is automated and synchronized for maximum efficiency.

Abstract: A molding apparatus is disclosed which includes a first support having spaced apart vertical posts, and a first set of mold halves positioned between the vertical posts. A second support is provided having positioned thereon a second set of mold halves. A clamp bar is positioned on the vertical posts adjacent the second support so as to extend across the mold halves of the second set of mold halves. A grip member secured to the first support is movable between an engage and disengage position, wherein in the engage position a clamp engages the grip member and the clamp bar so as to drive the respective sets of mold halves into sealing contact with each other, so as to form two mold cavities. In the disengage position, the grip member is clear of the clamp so as to permit the clamp to also act as a device to separate the supports when the molding process is over. Methods of using this equipment in an automated rotational molding process are also disclosed.

Abstract: Improved booking drive mechanism for vertically extending mold presses such as SRIM mold presses. Opening and closing of the booking plate relative to its associated moveable ram are actuated by a pair of horizontally disposed hydraulic cylinders. Tension pulleys carried by the extendable pistons of the cylinders are trained around cables that connect the booking plate to the ram. When the pulleys are retracted into their cylinder housings, tension or pull on the cables causes the booking plate to move about a fulcrum to a closed position. Conversely, horizontal extension of the pistons away from the cylinders causes opening pivotal movement of the booking plate about the fulcrum thereby separating the booking plate from the ram.

The fixed tolerance gap offers the advantage that constant, minimum frictional conditions exist. The lateral attachment facilitates the replacement of individual peripheral dies (7) and temperature-based dimensional changes of the core (3) are followed by the peripheral dies, without risk of jamming.

Interchangeable heated mold parts lacking the aforesaid functions, are removably attached to the respective holders in such a manner that sheet metal core and cavity components of the mold parts are properly aligned. The guidance function of the holders guides the movement of the mold parts toward one another, and the stop function limits such movement to provide a predetermined space between the sheet metal components in order to form compression molding material therebetween to a desired shape and thickness. The stabilization function prevents longitudinal and transverse expansion of one of the mold parts relative to the other. The holders are designed to be attached to platens of a press.
