  • Patent number: 8118583
Abstract: A connector (20) is placed in a first die (50) so that an end of a wall (41) of the connector (20) closely contacts a recess (55) of the first die (50) to define a cutoff (58). The dies then are closed to define a filling space (60C) between a surface (62) of a second die (51) and an outer surface (46) of the wall (41). The outer surface (46) of the wall (41) is inclined moderately upward. Molten resin is directed into the filling space (60C) and presses the inclined outer surface (46) of the wall (41) so that an inner surface (47) of the bottom wall (41) is pressed against the recess (55) of the first die (50) and strongly held in close contact by a component of this pressing force. Thus, molten resin cannot intrude through the cutoff (58).

An elastically deformable sleeve is arranged on an end of the nozzle outlet side and defines a gap width which can be varied by axial setting movements of the mandrel and/or the nozzle body. The geometry of the nozzle gap can be influenced by radially deforming the sleeve with setting devices during the extrusion of a hose-shaped preformed blank. The sleeve may be moved in a radial direction and is guided on sliding surfaces which support it in upward and downward directions. The sleeve may be in the form of a cylinder or tube. A lower edge of the sleeve shapes a cross-section of a melt stream exiting from the ring gap nozzle.

  • Patent number: 7384254
Abstract: A coextrusion adapter for an extrusion installation with extruders and a tool for producing a composite coextrusion structure of thermoplastic material. The coextrusion adapter has a central conduit with an end at an inlet side for connecting an extruder and an end at an outlet side for connecting the tool. The coextrusion adapter has at least one coextrusion conduit with an inlet end and an outlet end. A second extruder can be connected to the inlet end. At an end facing the outlet end the adjusting elements have a wedge-shape adjusting section with one wedge surface facing the central conduit and another wedge surface facing the outlet end of the coextrusion conduit. The adjusting section of the adjusting elements is pivotal around an axis extending over the width of the outlet end by the actuating drives. When an increase of the inside diameter of the respective transverse section of the outlet end occurs the corresponding transverse section of the central conduit is narrowed, and vice versa.

Abstract: A method for injecting plasticized masses such as rubber, silicone, and the like into a mold die of an injection-molding machine, directly or by way of a cold channel, uses a nozzle whose opening width can be changed. The opening width is maximal at the beginning of the injection process, and is changed over the course of the injection process, up to its end, using a predetermined control profile. The temperature of the mass is influenced in a targeted manner in accordance with the opening width, and the friction losses in the mass that change as a result of this.

Abstract: In an extrusion head and an extrusion method for the production of a tubular multilayer preform the extrusion head includes at least two feed paths for feeding plasticised plastic material from one or more extruders to an annular passage arrangement. The annular passage arrangement includes mutually concentric annular passages forming mutually separate flow paths for the various layers of the preform. An annular gap nozzle has an annular gap communicating with the annular passage arrangement, and at least one flow passage communicates with an annular passage of the annular passage arrangement, for the introduction of a translucent viewing strip. The flow passage communicates with the annular passage in question upstream of the annular gap in the region of separation of the flow paths.

  • Patent number: 7296991
Abstract: An annular thermoplastic foam extrusion die assembly has a first die body with a first die lip and a second die body with a second die lip. The first die body includes a trench having an undercut, sloped back wall and a circumferential groove opposite the back wall. A plurality of die lip paddles are spaced apart about an annular groove, each with a tip and a heel. The tip is received for pivotal movement in the groove. The heel engages with the back wall as the heel is raised to drive the first die lip toward the second die lip to adjust a local position of the annular die gap formed therebetween. The lifting mechanism raises and lowers each of the paddles individually. The guide member guides each of the die lip paddles for positioning in a radial direction as the paddle is pivotally positioned about the annular groove.
