Abstract: An improved coupling component includes an annular tube which is inflatable to move friction shoe assemblies into engagement with another component of a coupling. Elastomeric mounting material is connected with the tube and is molded in place against the friction shoe assemblies. The molded elastomeric mounting material extends around torque transmitting elements, such as pins, connected with backing plate of the friction shoe assemblies to connect the elastomeric mounting material with the friction shoe assemblies. When the coupling component is to be constructed, the tube and a plurality of friction shoe assemblies are placed in a mold. The tube is then expanded under the influence of fluid pressure to press elastomeric mounting material against the friction shoe assemblies. Upon application of heat, the elastomeric mounting material is molded around torque transmitting elements connected with the friction shoe assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4802832
Abstract: An in-mold labeling device for blow molding machines which includes a carriage assembly which moves a labeling head between a position in registry with a label storage magazine to a displaced position in registry with a cavities of molds. The labeling head includes a pick-up arm which is pivotable and supports a self aligning pick-up pad which carries one or more vacuum cups. In operation, the carriage assembly moves to a first position where the pick-up arm is pivoted to place the vacuum cups in contact with a label carried by the storage magazine. The pick-up arm is then pivoted back to pull off a label, and a slide is moved to position the labeling head into registering with an open mold. The pick-up arm is again pivoted to deposit the label in position onto the inside surface of the mold cavity and is maintained in that position through vacuum ports within the mold.

  • Patent number: 4793793
Abstract: The apparatus includes a first female mold member defining a mold cavity for receiving a plastisol skin or layer. A second mold member or slide is positioned with a surface thereon contiguous with the surface of the mold cavity. The surface of the second mold member receives and holds thereon a portion of the plastisol skin extending from the mold cavity. A third mold member, such as a mold core, positions a rigid insert in the mold cavity with an insert surface or edge adjacent the portion of the plastisol skin on the second mold member. The second mold member includes passages for directing fluid pressure against the portion of skin thereon to fold it over the adjacent insert edge. A fourth mold member, such as a mold lid, is movable toward the second and third mold members for pressing the folded-over skin against the insert during foam formation between the skin and insert.

Abstract: An in-mold label dispenser (10) is disclosed as including a label carrier shuttle (40) moved by an operator (46) mounted on a support (36) that is moved rectilinearly on a slideway assembly (34) by an actuator (38) between an aligned position with respect to an open mold (14) and a label transfer position. Label carriers (44) on the shuttle (40) transfer labels (32) from associated label magazines (30) to mold cavity sections (18) in order to perform an in-mold labeling operation of a plastic blow molding machine. A first locator (42) on the shuttle (40) and a second locator (48) mounted for rectilinear movement on the opposite side of the mold from the shuttle are engaged as the shuttle is moved to an inserted position with respect to the open mold. A second actuator (50) moves the second locator (48) between a mold aligned position and a transfer position with the locators engaged so as to provide the labeling operation of the mold.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a hollow plastic product is provided. In accordance with one aspect, into a mold half having a tubular groove portion and a projecting groove portion which projects outwardly from the tubular groove section is supplied a parison into the tubular groove portion and a clump of molding material into the projecting groove portion. When blow molding is carried out by introducing a pressurized gas into the parison, the clump becomes integrated with the parison thereby providing a hollow plastic product of unitary structure. In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, a parison extrusion nozzle is provided with at least two passages each of which is connected, preferably through a valve, to a corresponding dispensing unit for dispensing a desired molding material. A control unit is provided as connected to each of the dispensing units to control the supply of molding material so that there is obtained a parison having regions of different molding materials.
