Patent number: 5068065Abstract: Optimum sprue design requires suitably large cross-sectional area of the open aperture during mold filling and packing yet fast heat removal from the molten sprue during solidification. This is accomplished by a "hollow" sprue configuration, wherein an enlarged female sprue bushing cavity of large draft angles is axially aligned with a "spreader die" type of male member having a generally conical-tipped or parabolic-tipped torpedo shape, creating a cross-sectional open aperture consisting of an annular ring along at least partway up from the base to the tip. Both male and female may be fitted with internal mass-transport cooling. Since the cooling time of the sprue is directly proportional to the wall thickness of the molten plastic sprue being formed, and cooling time is further inversely proportional to the plastic/mold surface area, the resulting "hollow sprue" provides superior cooling without impaired fill and pack function.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1990Date of Patent: November 26, 1991Assignee: Galic Maus VenturesInventors: Steven M. Patent number: 4956139Abstract: A blade of an exposure control such as an iris control device or a shutter control device is provided for use in cameras. A sheet of a resin or metallic material configured as desired into the final blade form is placed in an injection molding machine which has a pin-forming cavity on one side of the sheet. The sheet is broken and penetrated at its portions where pins are to be formed and fixed, such that portions of the material of the sheet are deformed to project into the cavity. A molten resin is injected through a sprue formed on the opposite side of the sheet to the cavity so that the injected resin fills the cavity to form a pin in such a manner that the deformed and projected portion of the material of the sheet is embedded in the pin-forming resin. Another pin is formed on the other side of the sheet simultaneously with the first-mentioned pin in the same manner in the same die apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1987Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Canon Denshi Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiroshi Koizumi, Hideaki Kawata, Katsumi Arai, Koji Miyamoto, Tadaaki Ichikawa, Koji Ogata

Patent number: 4715806Abstract: A sprue part is cut and removed from the injection mold part during the manufacture of information storage disks by an injection molding process. The highly sensitive molding of an information storage disk is protected from damage by the sprue and the deposition of dust particles during stripping by this process. The sprue is punched into a part serving as the die of the injection molding tool and subsequently removed, in particular by suction, through an orifice leading from inside the part, together with the dust particles generated in the punching process. Preferably, the sprue is punched out and removed with the injection molding tool closed. The injection molding tool must be opened only after the sprue and the dust have already been removed, thus ensuring that the molded product has an especially good quality.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1985Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Assignee: Krauss-Maffei A.G.Inventors: Ernst Ehrler, Martin Eichlseder, Edmund Theiss
