  • Patent number: 7121818
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for preparing an absorbent core for use in absorbent garments is disclosed. The apparatus includes a funnel having a first end and a second end, the second end being narrower in diameter than the first end, and a nozzle having a straight section, a curved section, and a tip. The straight section of the nozzle is operatively associated with the second end of the funnel. The apparatus further includes a diverter plate operatively associated with the curved section of the nozzle. The invention provides a more uniform distribution of super absorbent particles within the fluff pulp used to make the absorbent core, thus improving performance of the absorbent core. An absorbent garment made using an absorbent core made with the apparatus of the invention also is disclosed. The absorbent garment provides better leakage protection than absorbent garments incorporating conventional absorbent cores.

  • Patent number: 7021922
Abstract: The invention relates to a portioning apparatus and a method. The apparatus includes a hopper and augers to push flowable material to a rotor. Retractable vanes on the rotor push the flowable material toward a fill slot as the rotor rotates. Below the fill slot, there is a mold plate with front and back mold cavities. In a front fill position, the mold plate is positioned so the front mold cavities are filled with flowable material from the fill slot while flowable material in the back mold cavities are pushed out by back knockouts. In a back fill position, the flowable material in the front mold cavities are pushed out by front knockouts while the back mold cavities are filled with flowable material from the fill slot. The mold plate reciprocatively oscillates between the front fill position and the back fill position for high output of portioned material.

Abstract: A prior top fill food processing machine is converted to increase production without increasing operating speed. A tooling set and a drive mechanism cooperate to increase the mold plate stroke and fill area. The tooling includes a fill plate and a breather plate with increased lengths that accommodate the increased mold plate fill length and stroke and that assure adequate seal-off. The pump box top plate of the prior machine is unchanged and serves as a reference for dimensioning the tooling set. The fill plate and breather plate extend in longitudinal directions from front and back edges of the top plate. The tooling is changeable into different combinations of mold plate cavity numbers and sizes and also different configurations for the fill plate fill slots. Abstract: This invention consists of a new cost effective injection molding apparatus for molding with hot melt adhesives and other Polyamide materials. Manufactured from standard tubing components in a double “L” or “C” design, it has fewer moving parts than other molding machines therefore requiring less maintenance. It is specifically designed to not require the use of temperature limiting and maintenance prone heated hoses for transport of melted material or sliding injection nozzles for engagement into mold-set by utilizing a substantially fixed injection nozzle. It incorporates a self-draining melt reservoir with single-side mounting to allow for heat expansion and has very short material transfer distance from reservoir to mold-set. It can utilize permanent nozzle engagement into the mold-set to simplify molding operation and reduce cost. It incorporates several safety features to protect operators against injuries.

The aligned position is the position of the carrier member in which a lower mold half attached to the carrier member is aligned with the upper mold half for completion of the mold and injection. The offset positions are nearer the front side of the vertical injection molding machine than the aligned position so that the carrier members move toward the front side between injection cycles.
