Abstract: A quick changing and quick gripping device for the molding tools of injection molding machines. The two mold halves of each molding tool are alignable in insertion guides between two adapter plates located opposite each other. The adapter plates are movable toward each for closing the molding tool and are movable apart from each other for opening the molding tool. The mold halves can be fixed in their aligned position by means of clamping members. During the changing and/or gripping procedure, the two mold halves of the closed molding tool are fixedly locked or coupled to each other. At least one locking bar is movably mounted in a mold half and automatically engages a locking bar engagement member mounted in the other mold half by means of a biasing force, such as, a spring. The locking bar includes an actuating element which projects into the range of an intermediate plate of the respective mold half, the intermediate plate being capable of being operatively connected to the clamping members.

Abstract: A cut-off nozzle system is mounted on the melt conduction duct of the center, sectioned mold clamping plate of an injection molding machine, in such a way that in addition to rapid accessibility of the individual parts of the nozzle system, the center, section mold clamping plate can be easily and quickly separated from the associated screw unit as required for the removal of the molded parts from the molds. The nozzle system has a spacing ring with a torpedo as well as a right-angled adapter and a cut-off nozzle, which parts are exchangeably joined with each other to form one rigid unit. With a high-speed clamping device, this unit is fastened on the movable center, sectioned mold clamping plate. • Patent number: 4790739
Abstract: A die and backing block assembly with a quick release fastening arrangement which includes a plurality of connectors, each including a pin connected to the die and having a head insertable into a tubular body connected to a piston lodged in a cylindrical chamber formed in the backing block. The mouth of the tubular body has radial holes accommodating balls which hold the head of the pin in the tubular mouth of the piston under the action of elastic springs, which tend to move the piston away from the head of the pin. The die and the backing block connected to each other are released from each other when oil is injected under pressure into a volume between the bottom of the chamber and the piston. The piston moves towards the head carrying the balls into a seat so that the balls move and release the head of the pin thus allowing for a separation of the die from the backing block.

  • Patent number: 4706926
Abstract: A mold comprising mold halves separable along a parting line has a rotating lifting handle carried by one of the mold halves, where the handle rotates between a first position in which it lies generally flat against the mold and a second position in which it extends outwardly from the mold to permit engagement by a lifting hook or the like. By this invention, rotation of the lifting handle from the first to the second position is prevented when the mold halves are separated along the parting line by more than a predetermined distance. Thus the mold cannot be lifted, since the handle cannot be rotated into outwardly extending position to receive the hook until the mold is closed. Additionally, this invention may be used to prevent opening of the parting line between the mold halves when in closed relation, while the handle is in the second position.

Abstract: Injection pressure acting on a molten material inside a nozzle in an injection process also acts on a mould clamping piston disposed in an injection cylinder to face an injection piston. The injection pressure acting on the mould clamping piston is transmitted to an auxiliary platen mounted at the right ends of tie bars, thus producing tensile force in the tie bars. Because of the tensile force, a movable platen mounted at the left ends of the tie bars is pulled toward a stationary platen, which in turn presses a movable mould against a stationary mould. Consequently, clamping force proportional to the injection pressure acts on the moulds, thus firmly clamping the moulds.

Abstract: A tripartite mold has a control bar on a fist outer plate and a locking bar parallel thereto on a second outer plate, both of them traversing respective passages in a guide block on an intermediate plate when the mold is closed. A U-shaped detent, slidable transversely to the two bars in a channel of the guide block, straddles the locking bar with clearance and is urged by spring pressure against the control bar which, in the closed position, it contacts with one leg while its other leg engages in a notch on the locking bar so as to latch the intermediate plate to the second outer plate. When the outer plates are driven apart with initial entrainment of the intermediate plate by the second outer plate, a cam on the control bar represses the detent against its spring force and disengages the other leg thereof from the locking bar whereby further separation of the outer plates lets the intermediate plate stay put while the second outer plate moves away.

  • Patent number: 4372738
Abstract: A mechanism for locking two mold parts together includes a cylindrical tie rod securely mounted on one mold part and having a circumferential groove therein. A cylindrical collet sleeve is rigidly mounted on the other mold part and has a plurality of axially extending, circumferentially spaced, resiliently flexible arms at one end. The free end of each arm has an inwardly projecting locking member thereon which the arm resiliently urges radially inwardly. When the mold parts are moved to a closed position, the tie rod is received within the collet sleeve and the locking members become axially aligned with and are urged into engagement with the tie rod groove. An annular collar encircling the tie rod is then moved axially until its inner surface snugly engages the outer surface of the collet arms, thereby preventing radially outward movement of the collet arms.

  • Patent number: 4364720
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved molding machine and a system for utilizing said machine, wherein central sources of supply are used to provide the operating requirements for the machine, such as high pressure hydraulic fluid, compressed air, cooling water and electic power. The machine disclosed utilizes a stationary platen and a movable platen, with a novel mold clamping arrangement as an integral part of the movable platen assembly. In this regard, said movable platen includes a pair of relatively movable plate members, with a high pressure diaphragm interposed therebetween. On the rearward most plate member there is mounted latching means for fixing the position of said rearward plate member preparatory to pressurizing of the diaphragm. When pressurized, the diaphragm will force the forward most plate member toward the stationary platen to effect the desired preloading of the mold inserts carried by said platens.

  • Patent number: 4345893
Abstract: A molding machine for die casting, injection molding, and other similar processes, comprises a base shaped to support thereon a two-part die, and a ram for converging and diverging the die halves between open and closed positions. A pair of clamping frames are pivotally mounted on one end of the base, and include a closed border shaped to surround or receive therein side portions of the die halves. The clamping frames are laterally pivoted between a fanned-apart or open position wherein the die can be freely lifted off of the base, and a folded or closed position wherein the frame borders surround the die side portions and capture the same between the ends of the frames. In the closed position, retractable compression columns extend between the die and one end of the frames to positively lock the die halves in the closed position, whereby die separation forces developed during injection of the die are resisted substantially solely by the clamping frames.
