Abstract: A mechanism for closing a mold in plastic injection-molding machinery that accommodates a large and heavy molding tool (5). One stationary chuck (2) rests machinery's base (1), while another chuck (3) travels on a longitudinally movable carriage (4). Each chuck (2,3) accommodates one half of the mold (5) and is aligned by poles (6) which can extend through the chucks. The carriage has a number of bearing sites (4.4) mounted on its bottom surface proximate to its corners. Suspension crossarms (10.2, 14.2) are rotatably mounted to the bearing sites (4.4). The rear suspension crossarms (10.2, 14.2) are mounted using a shaft (11) which has two eccentric portions (11.1) with opposite eccentricities. The non-eccentric portions (11.2) of the shaft are connected to one another by a torsion rod (12) and are rotatably mounted in the bearing sites (4.4). The rear suspension crossarms (10.2, 14.2) are rotatably mounted on the eccentric portions (11.1) of the shaft (11). Rocking shoes (10.1, 14.

  • Patent number: 5230911
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved clamping mechanism for use in injection molding machines and similar pieces of equipment where it is desired to apply a clamping force to particular components. The clamping mechanism of the present invention employs at least one spaced apart brake plate mounted to one component and a braking unit for engaging the brake plates. The braking unit has at least one pair of brake pad linings surrounding the brake plates and at least one piston-cylinder unit for causing frictional engagement between the respective brake pad linings and the brake plate(s). When the brake pad linings grip the brake plate(s), the braking unit becomes locked to the components to which the brake plate(s) are attached. The clamping mechanism of the present invention may be employed on simple injection molding machines as well as TANDEM.RTM. injection molding machines.

  • Patent number: 5213825
Abstract: A plastic lens molding apparatus. A first mold, having a concave optical surface, and a second mold, having a convex optical surface, are arranged so that the optical surfaces are opposed to each other, each of the optical surfaces having an apex. An adhesive tape is applied over both the first and second molds to form a cavity between the molds. A plastic material is injected into the cavity and is then set. A plane including a tangent at an apex of the optical surface of at least one of both the first and second molds is inclined at a predetermined angle to an optical axis of the lens.

Abstract: A wedge type locking member (27) is brought into contact with a first piston (12) for clamping by means of a pushing spring (28). Thereby, the first piston (12) is prevented from returning from the clamping position (X) to the unclamping position (Y). The locking member (27) is provided with two pressure receiving surfaces (F)(S) having substantially equal areas. A fluid pressure within a first actuation chamber (13) for clamping acts upon these pressure receiving surfaces (F)(S). • Patent number: 5204047
Abstract: A mold closing apparatus and process for use with an injection molding machine are described. The mold is opened and closed by hydraulic pressure. The disclosed apparatus and method relate to the use of an immobile differential piston within a displaceable, double-acting differential piston which moves within an immobile piston cylinder. This arrangement permits the use of smaller diameters to produce the necessary closing force. The immobile differential piston comprises the necessary hydraulic passages for routing hydraulic fluid to the appropriate surfaces for exerting opening and closing forces. The use of a plurality of displaceable, single-acting pistons in parallel with the differential piston further reduces the diameters needed for exerting the closing force. Locating these single-acting pistons within the support column cylinders makes for an even more compact apparatus.

Abstract: There is provided by the present invention a compression molding tool for producing apertures of a desired configuration in preselected locations in a compression molded article and a method for producing the apertures. The tool has first and second relatively movable tool halves each supporting a mold section. The mold section associated with the second tool half includes a movable portion that is relatively movable with respect to the second tool half. The first tool half is moved relative to the second tool half until the first and second mold sections engage each other to form a mold cavity therebetween. Devices for creating apertures are included on at least one of the mold sections and are extended into appropriately configured receptacles in the other mold section after the mold sections are engaged, but before molding material is forced by compression into the mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 5196150
Abstract: In an injection press having a mold in the form of a moveable die positioned on a moveable plate and a fixed die positioned on a fixed plate, the moveable die is moved to a compression starting position which is spaced slightly from the fixed die, the resin to be molded is injected into the mold cavity between the two dies, and the moveable die is then moved towards the fixed die to compress the thus injected resin. The compression starting position is determined by mechanical positioning means which can adjust the compression starting position. The stroke deviation for the compression can be adjusted by detecting the position of the moveable plate during the compression stroke so that the levelness of the moveable die can always be maintained during the compression stroke. Thus, the parallelism of the two dies can be stably maintained against the injection pressure.
