    Abstract: The invention relates mold, particularly a mold for producing foam articles. In a preferred embodiment, the mold comprises a lid and a bowl releasingly engageable to define a mold cavity, the lid comprising: (i) a vent having a passageway for gas to escape from the mold cavity, and (ii) a plurality of grooves connected to the vent. The use of a plurality of grooves/slots in the mold cavity surface effectively acts as a siphon to draw gas away from the composition to be molded. The plurality of grooves/slots is connected to one or more vents which then allows for escape of the gas from the mold cavity to the exterior of the mold.

When injecting molten plastic, air in the mold cavity can be expelled in time under pressure of the molten plastic and through the air channel. Therefore, the surface quality of the molded product can be improved, by avoiding formation of air holes, fissure.

    Abstract: A vacuum forming apparatus for forming a tire, wheel, or other item in a mold having a cavity with the shape of the item to be cast that is contained in the apparatus. The vacuum forming apparatus utilizes a bell shaped outer cover arranged to seal along its lower edge to a mold base plate, and includes a canister maintained under a deep vacuum and arranged in or connected to the apparatus as a reservoir to receive a mixture of urethane constituents, with the deep vacuum removing air from that mixture, and the air free mixture is passed through a valve and into the mold cavity. A low level vacuum is pulled through a vent valve in the bell shaped outer cover to pull the flow of urethane material through the cavity, filling the mold. With the cavity filled, the canister valve is shut and the vent valve in the bell shaped outer cover is closed, allowing the urethane material in the mold cavity to cure, and the mold is broken open and the cast item is removed from the cavity.

    Abstract: A tire mold for molding a rubber or plastic article includes an aluminum tire mold having an internal mold cavity, at least one vent hole of a selected diameter extending from the mold cavity to the exterior of the mold. A metal vent plug is operatively disposed within the vent hole such that air may be released through the vent hole from the internal mold cavity to the exterior of the mold upon heating the entire mold during molding of the rubber or plastic article, but prevents any rubber or plastic from entering the vent hole during molding of the rubber article. This is done by heating the aluminum tire mold, then inserting a metal vent plug into each vent hole; then cooling the entire aluminum tire mold with the metal vent plug to room temperature; then freezing the aluminum tire mold to a temperature of at least about ?100° F. for at least one-half hour such that the aluminum tire mold deforms around each metal vent plug; and finally, removing the mold from the freezing conditions.

    Abstract: A resin mold material includes one-dimensional communicating holes extending substantially linearly from a mold surface and having diameters from 1 nm to less than 10 ?m; a surface layer including the mold surface and the one-dimensional communicating holes; a support layer covering a back of the surface layer; and three-dimensional communicating holes communicating with the one-dimensional communicating holes in the support layer and having diameters larger than those of the one-dimensional communicating holes. Accordingly, a liquid resin is unlikely to enter the one-dimensional communicating holes, thereby reducing a contact area of the mold surface and the liquid resin, i.e., the mold surface is repellant to the liquid resin. Gas in a mold cavity bounded by the mold surface is discharged through the one-dimensional and three-dimensional communicating holes sequentially. Consequently, a release property of a molded product from the mold surface is improved and generation of voids is suppressed.
