Abstract: A security film adapted to display a message indicative of tampering is disclosed. A light transmitting sheet has a first layer on one surface, a release layer on a portion of the opposite surface, and a second layer covering the release layer and another portion of the opposite surface. The first layer is a metal and the second layer is a metal or a non-metal. An adhesive layer on the second surface adheres the film to a substrate. Removal of the sheet from the substrate causes the sheet to separate from the second layer under the release layer making a release layer pattern visible on both the sheet and substrate as reverse images. A method disclosed includes metalizing a light transmitting sheet with a metal layer on one side and a release layer and a metal or a non-metal layer on the opposite side.

Abstract: After forming an opening, a resist film is formed on the entire surface and a resist pattern is formed by patterning the resist film. The shape of the resist pattern is such that it covers one side of the bottom of the opening. As a result, a Si substrate is exposed only in one part of the opening. Then, using the resist pattern as a mask, a catalytic layer is formed on the bottom of the opening. Then, the resist pattern is removed. Carbon nanotubes are grown on the catalytic layer. At this time, since the catalytic layer is formed on only one side of the bottom of the opening, the Van der Waals force biased towards that side works horizontally on the growing carbon nanotubes. Therefore, the carbon nanotubes are attracted towards the nearest side of the SiO2 film and grow biased towards that side.

Abstract: A method of producing a finish for a paper substrate, wherein the finish provides the paper substrate with a color that matches the color of a target object. In accordance with the method, calculations are performed to determine the quantities of at least one group of colorants required to produce a semitransparent wood stain from a vehicle, wherein when the semitransparent wood stain is applied to the paper substrate, the paper substrate will have a color that matches the target object. The calculations are performed using reflectance measurements of the target object obtained using a spectrophotometer and previously obtained spectral data of the colorants as applied to a paper substrate. The colorants used to form the transparent or semitransparent wood stain do not include a white colorant or black-and-white masstone.

Abstract: An integrated composite structure with a graded coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is formed by selecting a plurality of layers of materials with a graded CTE and using build-up (bottom-up) fabrication approaches such as metal deposition or powder metallurgy to produce a CTE-graded layered composite preform, which is then consolidated and heat treated to create the CTE graded integrated composite billet or near net shape. The integrated composite billet or near net shape is then processed to produce a first surface for attachment of a first structural member having a first CTE and to produce a second surface of for attachment of a second structural member having a second CTE.
