C. The plurality of printing inks is transferred to the object in descending order of phase change temperature. A sharp image in color can be printed without set off or seep through, and hands are not stained with ink when the image is touched by hands.

The deposited foam is dried to remove solvents and cured to strengthen the binder which restrains the microspheres. Heating may also expand the unexpanded microspheres. A tie coat may be applied to promote adhesion between the substrate and the insulating syntactic foam. Multiple layers of the syntactic foam may be applied to increase the thickness of the resultant layer for providing a controlled amount of increased insulation.

Alternatively, the bulking agent can be added to a polymer-reinforced paper after it has been formed. In certain embodiments, the bulking agent is a polyhydric alcohol. In other embodiments, the bulking agent is a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight in the range of from about 100 to about 1,500.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for pumping and recapturing high viscosity paints. The apparatus comprises a double diaphragm pneumatic pump having means for controlling the air exhaust rate from the diaphragms to thereby reduce the diaphragm cycling rate. The decreased diaphragm cycling rate enables high viscosity paint to be drawn into the pump chambers and thereby avoids cavitation and increases the output flow rate. In a preferred embodiment, the bleed port, which vents air from the diaphragms to the atmosphere, is fitted with a needle valve, enabling the exhaust rate to be variably controlled. An alternative embodiment comprises a pump fitted with a valve received by the main exhaust of the air motor to thereby control the exhaust rate from the diaphragms. The pump system comprises a pump as described above and a four-port, two-way valve, which is rotatable by 90.degree., such that the flow within the system is reversed when the valve is rotated.

The coolant circuit for the nip roll includes a warmup loop which temporarily circulates warm fluid through the nip roll when the system is first taken off-line, thereby preventing condensate formation or frost formation on the nip roll.

The nip roll is specially designed to press the web into intimate contact with the first downstream chill roll while avoiding damage to the web, nip roll, or chill roll, and while avoiding ink picking on the web surface contacted by the nip roll. The nip roll has an elastomeric outer peripheral surface and is internally cooled so as to maintain the outer peripheral surface at an equilibrium temperature below that at which ink softening and resultant picking could occur. By eliminating concerns of condensate streaking, the nip roll also permits dryer operation at relatively low temperatures, thereby substantially reducing operating costs.

The device comprises a valve/nozzle assembly and a plurality of disposable, single-use cartridges of pressurized paint. The valve/nozzle assembly includes a threaded fitting having a piercing member extending therefrom that pierces a cover on a selected cartridge as the cartridge is threaded over the fitting. Upon piercing the cover, paint is forced upwardly into a valved passageway within the valve/nozzle assembly. A hinged lever is operatively coupled to the valve such that as the lever is depressed, a spray of paint is released through the nozzle at the end of the valve/nozzle assembly and onto the garment. Thereafter, the cartridge is removed and a second cartridge of paint thinner is attached to the valve/nozzle assembly. Again, the lever is depressed to release a spray of paint thinner through the valve/nozzle assembly for cleansing same.

By changing the topography of the capillary substrate, the liquid precursor can be applied to the capillary substrate in different pattern, without changing the transfer roll.

At least one, and typically substantially all, of the perforation lines have substantially V or U-shaped enlarged end terminations to facilitate dispensing of the labels. The perforations are formed by applying a perforation pressure of about 500-600 lbs.
