Abstract: A process to produce a silane coating includes charging one or several silanes, which are not or only minimally pre-condensed, with a reactant and the thus created coating material is applied onto a substrate and then hardened. Surprisingly it has been shown that, through the reaction involving higher-molecular and only slightly pre-cross-linked silanes with a suitable reactant, a new class of coating materials can be created. The approach is advantageous insofar as restrictions with respect to pot time no longer exist and, in addition, better features of the coating material are obtained, especially a high scratch-resistance.

  • Patent number: 7867566
Abstract: A method for fabricating a reinforced matrix composite comprising the step of providing a composite preform having a fibrous structure and applying matrix material onto the preform in locations along the preform. A barrier material is applied to at least a portion of the coated preform to direct the flow of matrix material into the preform. The composite preform is heated to a temperature sufficient to render the matrix material viscous and insufficient to cure the matrix material. The pressure to the interior of the composite preform is reduced, while the pressure to the barrier material is increased. The temperature is maintained to flow the matrix material into the composite preform and to force gases from the fibrous structure. The composite preform is then cured and cooled to form a reinforced matrix composite having a low void content and a substantially uniform matrix distribution.

  • Patent number: 7842332
Abstract: A method for intermittently applying thin-film coatings is realized, by which a coating of extremely thin film reduced to 20 ?m or less in thickness is deposited intermittently with high productivity and at the same time, the trailing coating edge of the thin film is formed in a highly accurate shape having good linearity. This is achieved as follows. A band-shaped substrate (1) traveling in one direction is kept looped over a stationary reference-roller (4) and a movable actuation roller (7), and is brought into contact with an application roller (19) which carries a coating agent (18) on its circumferential surface and rotates in a direction opposite to the direction of travel of the substrate (1). The actuation roller (7) is moved to come into or out of contact with the substrate (1) with a predetermined timing.

Abstract: A garment having one or more built-in protective pads permanently or semi-permanently attached thereto, the pads being energy dissipating, conformable to the surface of the wearer body, durable and washable. The pads may include polyurethane or other similarly propertied cushioning material and may be permanently or semi-permanently fabricated into the garment fabric by applying or otherwise integrating the cushioning material to fabric, the fabric being any commonly used fabric. The cushioning material may be applied by molding, pouring or otherwise applying the material to the garment. The individual pads can vary in colors, rigidity, and other properties.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an ink jet ink comprising a dye, a vehicle, and a surfactant combination comprising: (a) an acetylene alcohol having the generic structure: wherein R and R1 are C1-C10 linear or branched alkyl groups or hydrogen, and wherein only one hydrogen on either R or R1 is replaced by a hydroxy group; and (b) a siloxane surfactant having the generalized structure wherein E is —CH3 or —O—Si(CH3)3, G=—CH2—, or —CH2—CH2—CH2—, x, y, and z are independently about 0 to about 40, and y+z is at least 1; and wherein the acetylene alcohol is present in the amount of at least about 0.3%, and the siloxane surfactant is present in the amount of at least about 0.03 to about 0.5 percent, based on the weight of the ink composition. The inks provide good color on a range of media and can be loaded into used inkjet pens without volume reduction.

  • Patent number: 7803252
Abstract: The invention relates to a flexible and porous fabric structure comprising a support structure (1) and a coating material for use in a paper machine. The coating material (2) is arranged solely on the surface of the support structure (1) at a predefined location(s) so that the coating material (2) does not substantially alter the permeability properties of the support structure (1). The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a fabric structure.

  • Patent number: 7794791
Abstract: A method for treating textile fabrics is described in which there is applied to a fabric a first treatment composition comprising a fluorochemical textile treating agent. A second treatment composition is applied to one side of the fabric such that a layer of the second treatment composition is formed on that side subsequent to a drying step. A polymeric film is then adhered to the formed layer. The process and the resulting product are characterized in that no formaldehyde of formaldehydic compounds are used in the treatment compositions or the film, and a formaldehyde scavenger is included in at least one of the treatment compositions. The resulting fabric is environmentally friendly and exhibits a high degree of soil and water resistance without sacrificing aesthetic qualities.
