    Abstract: A fountain applicator for applying coating liquid onto a web of paper carried past the applicator, has a coating liquid flow path that includes a curved surface along which a sheet of the coating liquid is flowed to subject the sheet to centrifugal force to cause air entrained in the coating liquid to move away from one side of the sheet that is toward the curved surface, so that the one side is relatively free of entrained air. After being flowed along the curved surface, the sheet of coating liquid is directed toward the web in a free standing jet curtain of coating liquid, to contact the web surface primarily with the one relatively air-free side of the coating liquid sheet to decrease the occurrence of skip coating on the web surface, especially when the web is traveling past the applicator at high speeds. The coating is applied in excess onto the web surface and is metered and leveled to a desired coat weight by a downstream doctor.

This paint/diluent mixture is used to coat the coated object upon the start of the coating process and until the process reaches a steady state. The flow of diluent is then stopped and the coating process is continued using only the paint in a steady state coating process. The flow of diluent is then started again to form a paint/diluent mixture as the coating process ends. A coating with a highly uniform thickness along the entire length of the coated object is produced by this method.

The binding agent is comprised of distilled water, sulfated oil, phenolene or benzoisothiazolinon, casein, urea, alkali diluent and caprolactam. The method for producing the coating material includes the steps of creating the binding agent, mixing the binding agent with the other base components, and finally, mixing in the graphite. The result is a coating material with a plurality of dipoles that produces a high degree of radiation of electromagnetic waves when in a state of excitation.

    Abstract: A method for imprinting woodprints onto the blade of fan generally includes the steps of 1) molding the plastic blade; 2) coloring the blade with woodprints; and 3) deploying a protective coating thereof. Characterized in that when the plastic blade is molded by injected molding, the surface of the plastic blade is formed with a plurality of recesses that stimulate the annular rings. The plastic material can be dyed with white or other colors that stimulates the wood color. Then the surface of the plastic blade is printed with a first UV coating that is darker than the color of plastic blade. Afterward, the UV coating is then flattened by means of a rubber knife such that the UV coating is left only within the recesses on the surface of the plastic blade. Before the UV coating is cured and dried, a brush can be used to brush the UV coating longitudinally to generate a pattern of fibrils. Then the coating is undergone the UV light to cure and dry the UV coating.

C. to form a melt having a viscosity in a range of about 50 centipoise or less and flowing the melt onto a moving surface of the strip article through an elongated slot in a movable coating head having an extended surface adjacent to the slot to form a coating layer on the article. The coating head is pushed towards the surface of the strip article as the melt is flowed as a coating onto the surface from the slot to reduce a coating thickness by pressing the extended surface of the coating head onto the coating as the coating is formed.

That smoothing is provided by a face of the upstream lip, which face has a convex shape that allows the wet gravure layer to remain in contact with the upstream lip over a wrap angle .gamma. of at least two degrees, thus ensuring that the tensioned carrier web neither buckles in the cross-web direction nor experiences instabilities such as fluttering. The extruded layer is contacted by a smooth face of the downstream lip, and the coated carrier web exits the smooth face substantially tangentially at a sharp trailing corner.

    Abstract: A flattened tubular knitted wire mesh is passed through a bath of a slurry comprising a vermiculite binder and a high temperature lubricant powder with optional metal fibers suspended in water to form an impregnated moving slurry filled web. The slurry filled web is passed between metering bars to remove excess slurry to reduce the web to the desired thickness and then dried in an oven at a temperature in the range of about 200-400.degree. F. The web is conveyed at about 5 feet/minute and forms a continuous sheet of flexible preform with a dried filler which is wound on a take up roller driven by a motor via a controller which also operates the web drying oven. The preform is then formed into discrete preforms for article manufacture such as seals and the like by conventional die compression.

    Abstract: A process for manufacturing a phosphorescent screen for use in a cathode ray or field emission display, is described. The phosphor layer is applied in the form of a slurry consisting of a powdered phosphor, an ethylene glycol monobutyl ether acetate solvent, and a cellulose acetate butyrate binder. The phosphor concentration is between 30 and 60% by weight, the solvent between 5 and 52.5% and the binder between 17.5 and 35%. If the slurry composition falls within these ranges, then, once the aluminum anode layer is in place, all organic material can be removed by firing at a temperature that is less than 500.degree. C. By keeping the firing temperature below 500.degree. C., roughening of the undersurface of the aluminum is avoided and a more efficient screen is obtained. Data to illustrate this is also provided.
