Organic Base Patents (Class 427/371)
  • Patent number: 4053546
Abstract: Method of making a leather-like sheet material having a low bounce impact elasticity, which comprises: (a) mixing (i) a solvent solution of a polymer (A) consisting mainly of an elastomer and (ii) a dispersion in a liquid of a polymer (B) consisting mainly of an elastomer, thereby obtaining a composite solution containing fine particles of (B) dispersed in a solution of polymer (A); (b) coating a sheet or impregnating a fibrous mat substrate with the composite solution; (c) immersing the substrate in a coagulation bath to deposit and coagulate both polymers; and (d) drying said sheet or mat.

  • Patent number: 4017656
Abstract: An imitation leather material which comprises in combination: a woven fabric base sheet material, one surface of which is a napped surface and the other surface of which is not napped; the napped surface of the base sheet impregnated with a crosslinked polymeric material; the napped impregnated surface of the base sheet characterized by a smooth, buffed, flesh-like surface; an open-cell flexible polymeric foam layer bonded to the other unnapped surface of the base sheet material; a thin polymeric skin layer bonded to the surface of the foam layer; and the thin polymeric skin layer characterized by an imitation leather-like surface.

  • Patent number: 4010053
Abstract: A process is provided for the manufacturing of a hollow rotating body which process comprises mounting at least two wheels in a parallel fashion upon a shaft, placing a plurality of strips of glass fiber fabric along the outer circumference of the wheels, whereby an enveloping cylinder is formed, impregnating the strips with plastics or synthetic resins capable of subsequent setting, setting, applying helically layers of impregnated fiber strips tangentially to the cylinder mantle whereby the size of the walls increase, applying a reinforcing belt of wire or tape, applying a finishing coat of plastic or synthetic resin, whereby surface irregularities are smoothed, setting, and mechanically treating the surface to remove irregularities. An apparatus for accomplishing this process is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 3979532
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of artificial leather which has a napped, suede or nubuck surface finish by contacting a natural, synthetic of semi-synthetic backing member with a polymeric system comprising a mixture of a heat-reactive latex and a carboxylated latex and which contains at least one dyestuff. Each of the latices is cross-linked in sequence while the contacted backing member is dried. The migration of non-polymeric components in the system of latices is suppressed during drying. The backing so treated is mechanically altered on the grain side of the backing member to provide an irregular leather-like surface thereto.

  • Patent number: 3976810
Abstract: The process of coating an organic polymeric shaped article with aluminum orthophosphate, using an anion compound as a source of aluminum, and topcoating with a polymer is further improved to enhance barrier properties under moist conditions. The aluminum orthophosphate coating is dried to effect no more than a partial cure and the anion concentration is reduced below about 1% of the weight of the solids content of the coating prior to completing the cure. The top-coating may be applied prior to completing the cure and then dried at a temperature to effect a substantially complete cure of the aluminum orthophosphate.

  • Patent number: 3950571
Abstract: Metal, carbon, or other original surfaces of articles, such as pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, having scored or marred surfaces can be rehabilitated by applying to them a composition consisting essentially of a mixture of powdered molybdenum disulfide and epoxy resin, curing the resin, and removing excess material. The coating is as hard as steel, has lubricative action, and can withstand high temperatures.

  • Patent number: 3947611
Abstract: In the preparation of low friction thread for use in the manufacture of bearings the thread is first rendered bondable, is then coated in a bath of bonding resin, is led vertically out of the bath and the resin is cured to the B-stage, and the B-stage thread is wound into spools for subsequent use.
