Patent number: 5108791Abstract: A curable organosilicon composition comprises a component having silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms, a component having silicon-bonded radicals reactive therewith, a curing catalyst, a catalyst-inhibitor and a bath life extender. In a preferred embodiment, the carboxylated soybean protein is pre-treated by the steps of:(a) adding carboxylated soybean protein to water in a mixer,(b) continuing mixing to achieve an even dispersion,(c) heating the dispersion to a temperature of 58.degree.-65.degree. C. while continuing mixing,(d) adding sufficient ammonia solution to neutralize the carboxylic acid groups in the protein, and(e) maintaining the temperature in the range 58.degree.-65.degree. C. until the reaction is complete as indicated by pH, or by complete dissolution of the protein, and(f) adding defoamer and mixing by gentle agitation.A method for coating paper is also claimed.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1988Date of Patent: August 9, 1988Assignee: North Broken Hill LimitedInventor: Adrian G. Patent number: 4740398Abstract: An antimicrobially active, non-woven web, a wet wiper containing the web, and a method of making the web. The method includes the steps of forming an unbonded fibrous web; applying throughout the unbonded fibrous web an uncured polymeric binder; applying a leachable catalyst to catalyze the cross-linking of the binder during curing, the leachable catalyst being antimicrobial; and curing the binder to cross-link the binder and bind the fibers together to form an antimicrobially active, non-woven web.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1985Date of Patent: April 26, 1988Assignee: James River CorporationInventor: Michael P. Patent number: 4740392Abstract: A thermosetting resin composition particularly suitable for surface coatings, especially paper and paperboard, and especially those subsequently converted into shaped paperboard products, e.g. paper plates and folded cartons, with a high gloss, water and oil resistant surface coating. The composition is suitable also as both an adhesive and coating in metallizing substrates by the transfer of metallic particles from a transfer agent to the substrate. When formulated without solvents or dispersants it is suitable for use as a casting composition or as an injection molding material. The composition comprises a polymer or copolymer containing carboxylic acid groups; an epoxy compound containing an average of more than one epoxide group per molecule; a quaternary ammonium base or salt thereof; and a monomeric carboxylic acid or inorganic acid which extends the useful working life of the composition and imparts a superior gloss to the surface of the finished product.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1986Date of Patent: April 26, 1988Assignee: James River-Norwalk, Inc.Inventors: John L. Patent number: 4724166Abstract: Label assemblies for redeemable coupons, pressure- sensitive labels, lottery tickets and the like. A strip of redeemable coupons comprises an indefinite length web coated with a release coating, at least one coupon on the web comprising a sheet of stock material, a first dry coating layer covering the surface of the stock material, a second dry coating covering the first dry coating and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer over the second dry coating and adhesively securing the coupons to the web. The first and second dry coating layers are substantially incompatible so that they separate from one another when the coupon, applied to an uncoated surface, is pulled therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1984Date of Patent: February 9, 1988Assignee: Grand Rapids Label CompanyInventor: Frank G. deBruin
