  • Patent number: 5593735
Abstract: An acid cured coating composition containing a hydroxyfunctional acrylic or polyester resin and a 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-tris-carbamate. Also provided is an acid cured coating composition containing a hydroxyfunctional acrylic or polyester resin, a crosslinking agent such as a melamine-formaldehyde or a related aminoresin, and a co-crosslinking agent derived from a triazine tris-carbamate such as 2,4,6-tris-(butoxycarbonylamino)-1,3,5-triazine. Also provided is an improved method of coating using the above coating compositions. • Patent number: 5384165
Abstract: A ferrous strip is galvanized by establishing an electrostatic potential on the strip which is then submerged on a fluidized bed of powdered galvanizing material and then allowing the adhered galvanized powder to be carried by the strip to a reflow station. The reflow station heats the strip and galvanizing material to liquidity the galvanizing material and establish the necessary alloy interface on the ferrous strip. Thereafter, the strip passes to a cooling zone wherein the reflowed galvanizing material is solidified before contacting a roller to use to direct the strip to the exit of the galvanizing apparatus. The atmosphere within the galvanizing apparatus is remained inert through the use of nitrogen which is also used as the fluid medium for the suspension of the galvanizing powder in the fluidized bed.

  • Patent number: 5314519
Abstract: Short and long wavelength absorption losses contribute to loss at the operating wavelength of an optical fiber drawn from a preform. Excess losses over and above Rayleigh scattering losses have been attributed to conditions such as temperature and the speed during drawing. Typically, after optical fiber (21) is drawn from an optical preform in a furnace (23) wherein temperatures may be 2200.degree. C. or higher, the fiber is moved out of the furnace and immediately through ambient environment to other portions of a draw line such as, for example, measuring and coating apparatus. It has been found that these absorption losses may be reduced substantially by application of a magnetic field to the optical fiber after it has been drawn and prior to it being coated.

  • Patent number: 5275849
Abstract: The apparatus, system and method utilize sequential sprays of wet, low-temperature steam, and dry, high-temperature steam to clean the exterior of laminated objects as well as to effect volatilization of liquid contaminates trapped between lamina thereof. Water is injected into the conduit through which the low-temperature steam is delivered, so as to produce a desirable concentration of droplets therein. A conveyor moves the laminated objects along a horizontal path through zones in which they are sprayed by the low temperature and high temperature steam, and then through a zone in which they are electrostatically coated with powder.

  • Patent number: 5208077
Abstract: A composite material, particularly useful for prestressing concrete and in stay cables for cable-stayed bridges and other such uses where strength, corrosion resistance and resistance to fatigue failure are particularly important, comprises high strength wire strand coated and impregnated with an impermeable and strongly adherent epoxy based resin. The impregnated and coated epoxy increases the flexural stiffness of the composite against bending fatigue in the areas of the anchorages in dynamically loaded situations and reduces relative movement and rubbing of the wires of the strand so as to reduce fretting and hence fretting fatigue, the principal mechanism for failure in dynamically loaded strand.
