Abstract: A glass substrate and a shadow mask are put tightly together by inserting the glass substrate between a magnet and the shadow mask made of magnetic material. A pattern forming of an organic EL device is performed by depositing an organic EL material on the surface of the glass substrate from an evaporation source through an opening portion in the shadow mask. A coarsening processing has been performed on the surface of shadow mask facing the glass substrate. This suppresses the damage on the substrate surface by the shadow mask during the evaporation processing.

  • Patent number: 6592930
Abstract: A method and a device involving an electric iris diaphragm/shutter are disclosed for controlling particle transfer of electrically charged medication powder particles from a source to a defined target area, of a substrate. Spatial distribution of particles onto the target area is achieved by an electro-dynamic field technique (320) applied to the distribution and deposition of particles in a dose forming process. An electric iris diaphragm/shutter (130) is located between a particle generator (110) and the substrate (140) such that all particles must pass the iris diaphragm for being transferred to the substrate. By adjusting amplitude and frequency of a superimposed AC potential (136) charged particles will oscillate in the created AC field such that only small light particles will emerge from the iris diaphragm/shutter for further transfer in the dose forming process.

Abstract: A metal-composite hose having a wall including an innermost metal layer and a resin layer surrounding it, in which the metal layer has at each end portion of the hose an inner surface covered with a resin layer, an elastic rubber layer, or both. A process for manufacturing a metal-composite hose includes: forming a metal layer; covering the metal layer with an elastic rubber layer, if required; and after masking a specific portion of the metal layer, forming a thermoplastic resin layer thereon by powder or spray coating. The hose is preferably a corrugated one. It has high fluid impermeability, flexibility and strength, as well as high metal-rust resistance and sealing property at both ends.

Abstract: A solder jet apparatus is disclosed The solder jet apparatus is a continuous mode solder jet that includes a blanking system and raster scan system. The use of the raster scan and blanking systems allows for a continuous stream of solder to be placed anywhere on the surface in any desired X-Y plane. This allows for greater accuracy as well as greater product throughput. Additionally, with the raster scan system, repairs to existing soldered surfaces can be quickly and easily performed using a map of the defects for directing the solder to the defects.

  • Patent number: 6086949
Abstract: A thin film disk and a method for producing the disk having an overcoat with two thickness regions. The thicker overcoat region can be used as a start/stop or loading zone and the thinner overcoat region can be used over the data recording area. This provides increased wear resistance while allowing improved magnetic performance through a reduction in the thickness of the overcoat over the data recording area. The dual thickness regions can be formed using different embodiments of the method. One method sputter deposits a relatively thick layer of overcoat material over the entire disk surface, masks off the portion of the disk for the thick layer, etches the unmasked area to reduce or eliminate the overcoat from the unmasked area, then deposits a second relatively thin layer of overcoat material over the entire surface.

Abstract: Nanometre scale particles (3) e.g. of Au are deposited on a Si substrate (2) with a SiO.sub.2 surface layer (1) provided with receptor sites (4) of a first electrical polarity by treatment with APTMS solution. The Au particles (3) have a surface charge (5) of a second opposite polarity e.g from surface adsorbed citrate ions, such that they are attracted to the surface sites on the substrate. The deposited Au particles are then released from the surface sites such that the particles move over the substrate and coalesce into a low dimensional aggregated structure. The aggregated structure may form at a surface irregularity on the surface of the substrate. The structure may be used in a quantum electronic device such as a single electron transistor.

  • Patent number: 5817373
Abstract: A substrate is placed on a charging surface, to which a first voltage is applied. Etch-resistant dry particles are placed in a cup in a nozzle to which a second voltage, less than the first voltage, is applied. A carrier gas is directed through the nozzle, which projects the dry particles out of the nozzle toward the substrate. The particles pick up a charge from the potential applied to the nozzle and are electrostatically attracted to the substrate. The particles adhere to the substrate, where they form an etch mask. The substrate is etched and the particles are removed. Emitter tips for a field emission display may be formed in the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5676804
Abstract: Particles of a lens coating material for forming a primary film are deposited from a direction toward which the surfaces of the lens prisms of a Fresnel lens face. Next, a light absorbing film is formed, conventionally, by sputtering, on both the lens surfaces on which the previously deposited primary film was formed and on the non-lens surfaces (on which no primary film was formed). This light absorbing film is intended to absorb types of undesirable or "invalid" light (e.g., "flaring light"). Subsequently, the films are removed from only the lens surfaces. Accordingly, a Fresnel lens having "invalid" light absorbing films only on the non-lens surfaces is more easily fabricated within a shorter time and at a reduced cost. Moreover, it is also possible to reduce the generation of "cone" and "rainbow" effects caused by "flaring light" when the Fresnel lens is used as a field lens of a projection-type image display device.

Abstract: Items of material are patterned on a substrate by forming a layer of photoresist on the substrate and a layer of metal on the photoresist. The photoresist is patterned to define an opening exposing a portion of the substrate and the metal is patterned to define an aperture smaller than the opening so as to divide the exposed surface of the substrate into shadow areas and a non-shadow area. A first material system is evaporated generally perpendicular to the aperture to form a first organic light emitting diode on the surface of the substrate in the non-shadow area and second and third material systems are evaporated at angles to the aperture to form second and third organic light emitting diodes in the shadow areas. Passivation material is evaporated perpendicularly onto the first diode and at the angle onto the second diode.
